Australian Open 2008 - DAY ONE

I thought i'd put them all in here considering 3 brits are in action on the first day.

OOP:

Show Court 3

11:00 Start

Men's Singles - 1st Round
Robby Ginepri(USA)    vs.      Tomas Berdych(CZE)[20]

Women's Singles - 1st Round
Melanie South(GBR)    vs.      Marion Bartoli(FRA)[16]

Men's Singles - 1st Round
Samuel Groth(AUS)    vs.      Mardy Fish(USA)[23]

Women's Singles - 1st Round
Anne Keothavong(GBR)    vs.      Anna Chakvetadze(RUS)[17]

Court 10

11:00 Start

Men's Singles - 1st Round
Brian Dabul(ARG)    vs.      Philipp Petzschner(GER)

Women's Singles - 1st Round
Monica Niculescu(ROU)    vs.      Katie O'brien(GBR)

So Mel and Anne are on Show Court three so we SHOULD get to see them (ES should show them). Mel second on, Anne last on.
Katie is second on Court 10. As the first day begins, it becomes evident that for the first time in ages, the women could outshine the men. With matches like Paszek v Dokic, Hantuchova vs Dellaqua, Venus Slayer
Sprem making a comeback vs Pironkova, Goerges vs Ivanovic, Wozniacki vs Peer, Kuznestova vs Sharapova slayer, Kudryavseva as well as the hotly anticipated clash between our very own Anne vs Chakvetdaze,
the first day looks so promision on the Women's side and could possibly turn into a day of upsets. Obviously Mel has been playing well but will it be enough to beat Bartoli? She was so close last year
you have to thing she has a chance, albeit not as big a chance as Anne.
And how can I forget Katie? Did great to quialify and join the other three in the MD, can she go any further? I think that Nicelescu will be VERY VERY tough and im not sure how to call it.
Of course as brits we all know about her and her game and her past as a Brit-slayer and although Anne got the better of her in their last match of 08, you have to realise that even Anne struggled in
that match and the gulf between Anne and Katie has widened dramatically.
So good luck to Dokic, Mirza, Goerges and of course our Brit girls; ANNE, MEL AND KATIE!!!

Very interesting first day. Looks like show court 3 is the place to be and I may spend the day over there.

For those of you in the UK wondering what time Mels match may start Berdych has a 2-0 record over Ginepri. They met recently in Paris and Berdych won in 2 sets in 86 minutes. So if he continues that form and wins in 3 in maybe 2 hours 15 mins Mels match could start about 2:30 am UK time.

Just a guess on my part

Coverage on Betfair from Rod Laver, Hisense Arena, Margaret Court Arena, Show Court 2, Show Court 3 and Court 6, which means that we will get to see Mel and Anne but no Katie tonight.

BBC coverage says that...

Monday 19 January to Sunday 1 February

0830-1400, live coverage on BBC Red Button and BBC Radio 5 Live sports extra

0000-0825 and 1400-2359 looped highlights on BBC Red Button

* Red Button coverage streamed on BBC Sport website throughout the fortnight

---------------

So we should be getting whatever is on the 'red button' steamed on the BBC web site ?

We should get to see AK and perhaps MS live on BBC and web site ?

If the BBC do what they did last year, then what you'll have on the Red Button will be the night session from the Rod Laver Court, but Anne and Mel's matches will be streamed on the sites that are offering it (Betfair, Bet365 etc), and maybe on Eurosport as well given their love for showing women's matches

Have a bit of confidence that we'll get someone through today, as both Anne and Mel could potentially win there matches, while you never quite know with Katie but I don't think she'll be good enough to win.

If Bartoli is fit, then I'd expect her to beat Mel, but if Mel goes for her shots and everything works, then she has a chance.

Anne has a tough match against Chakvedatze, although she's in no form at the moment and is on the slide... that said, she's still a huge class above anywhere Anne has ever been and would be a favourite - it's the kind of match you could see an upset, but if Anne did lose, you'd say it was expected

Has anybody here subscribed to the Betfair or bet365 Aus Open stream service? If so, whats your feedback so far?

Bet365

It's pretty good so far, except for it being a bit buffery, although I think that's more down to the internet connection rather than the stream.

Picture quality is pretty good and you can see the ball clearly - what you'd hope for in a stream really

Thanks for the advice; quality seems to be good and doesn't appear to be buffering too often. Plus the amount of courts on offer is extensive.

Well worth £10

And technically you get the £10 back as I'm sure you get either a £10 free bet, or they match a £10 bet you make during the tournament, so it's not actually costing anything (and you could even win money off it)

I'm the only one left up in the house at the moment, which has coincided with the buffering stopping, so it was just the fact that 3/4 people were using it that caused it to buffer

FD: Have you had any problems with the audio? I tend to find that when the stream first begins the audio is the cause of buffering and stop/starting - as when the stream re-starts, audio not working [No idea why this happens], the stream plays perfectly.
