Of course, I'm an idiot, but then so is that umpire!
Anne was clearly robbed of the last point in the first game of the set with a return inside the line and I think that annoyed her and put her off and now too many errors including df to lose her 1st service game.
It was put in perspective by Sam - GBR has 2 direct entries but Russia has 15 (yes fifteen)
Shame for Anne but hopefully she will learn from these matches. The third set went too quick and was such a let down after she had clawed her way back into the match in the second set.
Saw both Anne and Mel play today. Was quite impressed with Mel but Anne was disappointing today except for the 2nd set. It was very hot though until the shadows came but you can't play for just one set against the top players . They'll eat you up.
Saw the last set of Anne's match today and it was very disappointing to be honest, as Chakvetadze didn't have to do a lot to win the points, as a lot of them came from errors of Anne's racket - she hit quite a few shots were she was just trying to rally long.
And the drop shots... put them away for a long, long time, unless a dramatic improvement is found in them (and her control of the slice shot wasn't there at all today)
Still, taking Chakvetadze to 3 sets is a decent result and she knows that she can compete at this level, but just cannot afford to have bad sets/matches if she wants to progress through the slams.
I think there's enough about Anne to suggest she can sneak into the top 50, but I'd still be a bit surprised if she went any higher than that though
