Losing here might not be the worst thing to happen....getting into the top 50 and staying there will be tough work, and matches like this can only keep Anne on her toes....plus gives here some extra time to prepare for Aus Open :p ! A decent draw there and she could be top 50 soon enough
It's not a huge setback. Razzano has been thereabouts for years and has some WTA titles under her belt. For us to be disappointed that Anne has lost a close match to her shows how much she has improved.
I had a very bizarre thought this morning about this result of Anne's. It reminded of Hingis's comeback progress. Did she not reach the semis of the first tournie and then lost in R2 of the next week? (it may have been the other way around which renders this utterly useless info!!!) - (turns out it was R1 of the following week...)
How did she fare at the Aus Open the following week? Quarters.
LOL! Wishful thinking?? Yeah, I know, but it was amusing for the most part ;)
Still, a frustrating follow on the scoreboard, especially serving for the match and losing three on the trot. A missed opportunity, especially now with the draw free of ALL the seeded players.
I thought Sarah might claw the doubles win if I'm honest, especially after the previous win but hey, that's the beauty of tennis.
DavidC wrote:If Sarah loses tonight then the scenarios to look out for, which would I think stop Sarah being in the top 100 at the end of the week are:
Camerin reaching the semis in Hobart Dulko reaching the final in Hobart Santangelo reaching the final in Hobart (this would mean Anne also ) Kuznetsova reaching the final in Sydney AN Other who I have probably missed out
So best for Sarah to win tonight and avoid the complications
Dulko won the doubles (with Pennetta, bizarrely winninig one match 0-5 rtd) so Sarah's debut in the top 100 will have to wait
