Start of the 2nd set

CW serving

15-15 15-30 2nd serve 30-30 40-30 holds 1-0*

Mel serving *0-1

15-0 x30-15 x40-15 x40-30 df 40-40 x40-A x40-40 x40-A 40-40 x40-A 40-40 x40-A xbroken

I'm afraid that was a shocking service game with just 4/14 first serves in play. To her credit, Mel did save 3 bps so that's something.

CW *2-0

30-0 40-15 holds

Mel serving *0-3

Multiple break points on Mel's serve. She saves two and then a third with an ace (good stuff!) but can't hold off the 4th and it's 0-2*.

I get the impression that Mel is fighting extremely hard out there but is being handed a lesson in how you need to play the big points if you want to make it into the top 15.

I'd agree with that. I mean she's out of her depth against a top 20 player unless it's on the grass but the getting her first serve in play and making the most of her opponent's second serve, are things she can control.

Mel serving *0-3

30-15 30-30 30-40 broken df 0-4*

Still can't find her first serve

0-5

Mel serving *0-5

30-0 30-15 30-30 40-30 40-40 40-A 40-40

Still time for CW to get injured and have to retire?

Unfortunately not.

2-6 0-6

well, mel is still learning and it will take time for her to get used to playing at the top level regularly

Mel saved a MP but it's all over (just in time for Anne to start in Hobart btw), Wozniacki winning 6-2 6-0.

The 1st set was a bit closer than the score makes it look, but Mel's 1st serve % dropped from a very good 65% in the 1st set to a dire 37% in the 2nd, and when your serve is such an important part of your game, you haven't got a hope against the world no. 12 with a 1st serve % like that.

It's been a good week though, and today will have given Mel a good idea of how the top girls go about winning matches.

Mel lost 6-2, 6-0. Shame she let go after a confident start and a sad end to a great week. We will have to pray she gets a decent draw at the Aussie Open and pulls out a win.

Mel's had a great start to the season so hopefully being destroyed by a top player won't do any lasting damage. Wait for the Aus draw and if she gets an opponent she has a chance against then try to make the most of it. If not, then enjoy the experience.

Thought it might be tighter but this is an indication of where Mel can go from here which despite what the scoreline would suggest should draw a few positives at least.

The best thing though was getting the Yuan curse lifted so kudos for that. And either way, it was a nice 80 points in the bag for her which is always nice!

Shame it ended like it did.

mel had game points in 4/5 other games so it could have been much closer.
