Week 1 - Challenger (75K) - Nouméa, New Caledonia, FRA

It didn't quite click at first but as New Calodonia is a French overseas territory in the Pacific Ocean I wonder how easy it was for the guys to get flights there and then onto Oz - it seems like it would be an expedition in itself.

Edit: Maybe there are boats/ferries from Australia.  The islands don't look too far off Oz on a map.

i think the flight there went from London to Paris to some where like Hong Kong or Toyko then onto NC. One hell of a trip, but really here and Brazil are the only places for challenger players to get pre AOQ practice in. of course there the ATPQ's too.

don't know how hard it will be to get from their to Oz tho.

Just for the record, Kindlmann (who beat Josh) got beaten 2 & 3 in R2 by Lisnard, who in turn lost 2 & 4 to Sweeting, who in turn lost to Mayer, Boggo's conqueror, who went down in 3 sets to Brendan Evans in the Final.

i had expected mayer to win, but perhaps being taken to 3 sets in qf and sf took its toll.

There are plenty of flights to Brisbane and Sydney with connections to Melbourne from there. Total flying time is about 4.5 hours, with the stopovers lasting 2-12 hours.

Yes, about £ 400 if I remember right. Maybe it was possible to make it a stopover on the way out on a return ticket to AUS. (sounds unlikely, I know!)
