Boys & Girls: Salk Open, Stockholm, Sweden - ITF Grade 4

Both the Ren sisters are seeded here, and the Boys' draw includes John-Randolph Thornton, who played in the overlapping Casablanca Cup earlier in the week, joined here by Elliot Barnwell and qualifier Oliver Golding.

Boys Singles R1

Nima MADANI (SWE) Vs Elliot BARNELL (GBR)
John-Randolph THORNTON (GBR) Vs (Q) Stefan LINDMARK (SWE)
(Q) Oliver GOLDING (GBR) Vs (2) Piotr GADOMSKI (POL)

Girls Singles R1

Louise BRUNSKOG (SWE) vs (7) Jessica REN (GBR)
Gabriella BOBOC (SWE) vs (2) Jennifer REN (GBR)

Is John-Randolph allowed to do that?

Is it like a grandslam week where people who have been knocked out can play challengers in week 2?

It's a good question. According to the regulations

"41. One tournament per week

Players may not compete in more than one tournament per week. "

However if you look at the calendar for junior events you will see all sorts of starting and finishing dates (5-11, 7-11, 9-14 and 12-17 Jan for example) so overlap of tournament main draws is common at this time of year, and I guess that these two tournaments could be considered as belonging to different weeks

Keep going girls.

I;m taking that they are playing doubles with each other?

Anything less than a title is not worht much for Jennifer as that would only see her just break the top 200. She needs to move onto grade 2's and higher. Wonder if they'll play that grade 2 and 1 in eastern europe thats normally in janurary.

Yes, they are playing doubles with each other (3rd seeds). Jennifer needs to reach the final, for the tournament to add to her 'top 6' points, so it is a strange choice. Neither are playing the Grade 2 (Slovak Rep). Jennifer is down on the lists for the 2 British 10K events this month, but I have not seen Jessica down on any lists.

Boys Singles R2

(6) Rune WINKLER (DEN) d.

Congrats Jennifer. I hope (and expect!) to see a lot more from the Rens this year.

Really well done to Oliver for reaching the final.
