Vesnina may be better than her ranking implies, because as well as beating Wozniacki last night, she has been as high as 40 in the world. That was in May last year after she reached R3 at the AO (lost to Sharapova) and R4 in Miami (lost to Henin), while a run to R3 at Wimby in 2007 (lost to Henin) was still on the system as well. However, she's very streaky and, like Anne, will be trying to reach her first tour Final.

Vesnina seems to have some history but even thought she beat Wosi, Vesnina is not the 12th best player on the planet Wozniacki probably isn't either but ranking are rankings.
Great chance for Anne to get to the final. No matter what happrnd the confidence must be good going into the AO.
You never know. Avoid a seed first round, draw open up, a good win or 2 and a great AO could happen.
Exceptional stuff from Anne so far :D A mild blip in the second round (that second set was not fun to follow... break, break, break, break... GAH!) but a great, great result to start the year already!
I would wager this next match will be tough. Vesnina is not a world beater but she is capable of some good tennis. Apparently the Wozniacki win was the seventh top 20 win of her career so she's definitely a different prospect. It would probably be the better matchup IMO than playing Wozniacki, mind but either way... maybe a Dementieva rematch is on the cards ;)
