Predictions for 2009

Who do you see as making a big jump or a big drop in 2009

James Ward - Improvement (Top 200) Has the weapons to push through

Alex Bogdanovic - Drop (Top 300) Don't see how he can get back towards the top 100 sadly

Josh Goodall - Improvement (Top 120) This is his chance, he has to build on a solid 2008 sooner rather than later.

Alex Slabinsky - Improvement (Top 200) Has to start making the semis at challenger level but has the game to do it.

Jonny Marray - Improvement (Top 200), Has the game for indoor carpet and grass court season. Its now or never for Jonny.

Dan Evans - Improvement (Top 250), with the right team behind him, he should make the next jump. He needs to increase his weight of shot and serve to crack the top 200 for me.

Dan Cox - Improvement (Top 400), has the pace of shot to race up the ranking. When I last saw him play he was a solid counterpuncher from the baseline, I can't help thinking with a bit more aggression he could compete at challenger level with Bloomers and Goodall.

Josh Milton - Improvement (Top 500), has great groundstrokes but needs to bulk up to really jump up the ranking in my mind.

James Marsalek - Improvement (Top 1000), has the weapons to shock much higher opponents.

George Morgan (WR) - Improvement, With such a huge serve, should gain 2-5 ranking points next year

In all fairness, these are very positive predictions

I just don't really know how the mens game in the UK is going to do next year bar Andy.

I think the 1990 possey is all going to love forward and push towards the top 500 with Dan Evans top 300. Dan Cox not too far behind.

I think Colin Flemming is going to keep shooting up, should be close to his career high if not higher.

Not sure about Slabba, Josh, Johnny and the rest most should move up . There could be a lot more players ranked top 200/300 next year.

Pretty much exactly the same as Mervatron.

There's bound to be a big ranking loser and really only a handful of our front-runners are high enough to be able to lose much. I guess Josh or Slabba for the biggest slump.

It would be convenient to think that Boggo will plummet but I just don't think his game is bad enough - I'm sure he'll conspire to lose dozens of matches he "should" be winning, but the ones that he wins will be enough to keep him where he is. I predict a shock Wimbledon run for him after beating a decent seed - say, Blake - in the first round that will do most of the work for him.

That's a good article - realistic about last year, but with a good outlook on 2009.
