British Events 2009

The ATP calendar has been updated.  We have 2 x 15k events in Januray, the same again in March followed by a 50k challenger in Jersey.  The problem with using Jersey is that, because you need to fly there, it may as well be a foreign event for those just hoping to qualify.

It'd be nice to know what the LTA strategy is with these events.

I'd have thought that three 10ks and 2 15s would have been better than 4 15s.

Anyone have any idea?

If there is a 'strategy' It's a mystery to me! They used to do virtually all 10Ks, then switched to all 15Ks one year just as (and it was pretty predictable even without hindsight) the number of Brits likely to benefit from 15Ks rather than 10Ks was about to plummet and they eventually ended up with a mix of the two this year (and last year I think), which I agree with you is the best plan.

just a though i have had, we know that Surbs is moving to Nottingham this year as a consolation for losing the atp. But instead of making it a higher prize event they leave it at $50k. surely this was an ideal opportunity to get a big challenger on the calendar? i am sure they are thinking who needs it, as a grass challenger in the run up to Wimby it gets a strong line up anyway.

I hope that's not the *full* calendar, with only four UK Challengers listed, two of them closer to France than to GB. confuse
