It's not the FQR, there are 3 rounds. Emily more than capable of qualifying here though.

FQR: Emily WEBLEY-SMITH 408 (7) vs Cassandra BARR AUS 799

Barr took out top seed Ozgen in 3 sets, but has had a fairly uninspiring set of results recently, so Em has a good chance of winning, though Em has a habit of surprising (sometimes in a good way and sometimes not).

Hopefully Em will not feature in a surprise this time, but if she were to lose there are a couple of LL spots available. The six possibilities for qualifiers/LLs are (3)Urszula Radwanska (POL), Shikha Uberoi (IND), (wc)Romana Tabakova (SVK), (7)Selima Sfar (TUN), Irina-Camelia Begu (ROU) and Aniko Kapros (HUN). Radwanska and Begu are the ones to avoid ideally I think.

SFAR has been replaced by a very lucky loser - WR 398 Stefania Boffa

Good news for Emily and further welcome resbite from coming through qualifying and being one of the last 1st round matches on. Source ITF

Cracking performance in qualifying and a seemingly lucky break with the main draw.

Will a Brit be able to capitalise on this good fortune?

If she manages to beat BOFFA she would play NAGY another Qualifier ranked 339. There is a chance opening up for some points if Emily is on form.

Emily won. I think that is 10 points so far and a chance of another 8. Nagy was ranked 122 a couple of years ago but has slipped back to 339 so Emily is in with a chance.

L32: (Q) Emily Webley-Smith WR 413 beat (LL) Stefania Boffa (SUI) WR 398 Score unknown..

L16: (Q) Emily Webley-Smith WR 413 v (Q) Kyra Nagy (HUN) WR 339

Nagy has a career high of 122 back in 2006.

10 points so far for Emily and that should put her upto about 370 in the rankings.

What a hero Emily is for keeping interest up over Christmas. French Open qualies here we come. w00t.gif

Nice work EWS.

She has no points to defend over the period when her leg was broken this year either
