Well done to the girls for winning their first matches (which with the points on offer is important). I really hope Bally's body holds up and she can qualify, she was so close at the USO before she got injured.
It looks like the GB coaches out there are demanding the matches are not put on at the same time, dood for them but I think not good for the people staying up to LS who wouldn't mind if they were all first on so they could get some sleep.
Well done all 3 girls. Hopefully we can get one through so we'll have 3 brits in the main draw. Tough ask for Katie in the next round. Once again the brit girls are showing the lads up.
The odds of a clean sweep last night would have been around 10/1. Can this be repeated tonight ? At least Georgie's score can be followed at a reasonable hour tonight and her opponent had a long match in the 1st round 8- 6 in the third.
Good results last night - good to see them all getting some points on the board...Tho if they are going to progress then these are the kind of matches they have to be winning.
Definately think they can all do something again tonight but getting Elena into the MD will probably require a LL spot as Tosic, who has a number of WTA doubles titles, has done well here in the past. Incidentally how are LL's decided here? Is it like Wimbledon where it is a random draw or taken on rankings?
"The order of the four highest ranked players shall be randomly drawn, thereafter the order shall follow the players' rankings, unless there are more than two main draw withdrawals at the time the Qualifying competition is finished, in which case the random draw will be the number of withdrawals plus two."

Can someone explain the logic behind the grand slam qualifying ranking point system i.e. 40 pts for winning 1st round but only a further 10 pts each for winning 2nd and 3rd rounds.

There isn't any, it's bizarre.

The whole points system is weird. Mel got 20 points for beating players ranked 80,89 and 127 in Sydney and others are getting 40 points for beating one player ranked about 200 in a GS.
No, I can't think of any rational logic for the points structure either.
Great set of results, and not just for the inflated points (though they are particularly welcome for Katie, since it his her biggest points defence of the year). For Bally this tournament presents the best opportunity to gain the series of results needed to reach the top 100 before her defence of Jersey/Torhout.
For Georgie, the most important aspect is breaking her grand slam duck. Some players do very well in small tournaments but struggle to make an impact in grand slams (qualies or main draw). One of these is Julie Ditty, so hopefully Katie can take advantage. Woerle is by far the most successful of the 3 opponents at this level, having qualified here in 2006, but had to endure a 3 hour marathon against Zec Peskiric, so Georgie should have an advantage if the match is long.
I think Georgie can win hers. She's the one I'd put any money on if I was a betting man. I'm umming and ahhing with Katie just because we all know what she's like, despite her abilities. As long as her head's right, she should be on Ditty but... this IS Katie.
Elena's got every chance too... I just hope she has another good day like today... (or yesterday as it would be in Oz...)
All the best to all three! Nice to hear that all the GB girls are rallying behind each other at the sidelines :D Why is it I can't imagine Mel swearing?
