more good news for Kinsella and Arlidge in that their next opponents were losing 4-6 1-2 when their third seeded opponents retired in R1 so our boys have a great chance of making the semis.
An absolute shocker for Wardy, equally as surprising as it is awful - and the scoreline hardly suggests a close match [maybe he was carrying some sort of injury?]
L32: (2) James Ward WR 291 lost to (Q) Tobias Klein (GER) WR 974 by 4 & 4 L32: (Q) Jonathan Kinsella WR 961 lost to (1) Pavel Chekhov (RUS) WR 274 by 3-6 6-1 7-5 L32: (8) Chris Eaton WR 386 v (WC) Ali Al Ghareeb (KUW) WR 1659 - was due to be last on court today
That's actually a remarkable performance from Jonny K but an absolute shocker from James.

Good to see that Chris at least managed to salvage a bit of national pride today. I only hope he doesn't revert to "true Brit" type tomorrow & cave in meekly to his lower-ranked opponent in Round 2...!

The encounter is the second match on Court 9 tomorrow, the opener kicking off at 07.00 GMT. Chris & James then join forces for the final match on Court 6 against Chiudinelli & Klec (SUI/SVK), following a singles which kicks off at 10.00 GMT, likewise Burnham Arlidge & Jonny K vs the UAE WC conquerors of the Croat third seeds (Mektic & Ivan Zovko), Khaled Al Hassani & Faisal Bastaki, Court... Good luck, boys!
Agree with the sentiment that the Ward match was perhaps going to be tougher than it first appeared.
PLaying a qualifier first up is always going to be tricky as they have the experience of the court etc. Just look at cases where big seeds have gone out of events and you will find it is more often than not the first round.
Good to see Jonathan put up such a good fight - To some extent vindicating the point about qualifiers being dangerous for top seeds
After a slow start, this event seems to be updating ITF after every match rather than just end of day, which is brilliant. If all Futures did this, that would be a big step forward.
L16: (8) Chris Eaton WR 386 beat Denys Molchanov (UKR) WR 453 by 5 & 4
QF: (8) Chris Eaton WR 386 v (4) Ivo Klec WR 361 or Jean-Noel Insausti (FRA) WR 484
