When is the deadline for Aus Open main draw direct entry? (How many events does Mel have left that could count towards it?)
What is the typical cut-off point? (12 qualifiers? + 8 wildcards so 108 direct entrants - guess 110-112??)
Currently 110th place is held with 311 points while TBE's ranking for next week have 109th at 311 points.
So a net 15 point gain could take Mel into the main draw (if cut-off is 110). Mel appears to be playing Pune 25K then Kolkata 50K then Toyota 75K+H, all in November.
The slight problem being that Pune's 25K field seems to consist of players who have come for the following week's 50K event (though the withdrawl deadline is next tues), so that would be a much tougher event to win than these recent Aus 25Ks.
Anyway, I suppose the basic point is that it will be touch and go whether Mel gets direct entry into Aus.

The cut-offs for the last 5 years are 115 116 116 114 112. The girls currently in those positions have just a handful of points more than Mel will have after Port Pirie is added, though Mel still has a few points left to defend from 2007. Therefore if she has 1 decent tournament out of the 3 you mention (the only ones she is scheduled for which will count) then she will be competitive for the AO main draw. One huge tournament (winning the 50K or 75K for example) would virtually guarantee her entry.
I'd forgotten that the women have smaller qualifying draws for slams than the men, and hence more DA places. If Mel could get a DA for the AO, that would be huge - even if she doesn't, she should have a good chance in qualifying with a high seeding and apparently very comfortable playing out there
Isn't it nice to have these kind of things presenting themselves as possibilities
