What a great win against someone who has reached the semis of 6 of his last 8 Challengers, and from a set down too! If only Richard got some ranking points for it ... still, there are 10 at stake in the FQR, but it's going to be even tougher than this morning and he's going to have to complete a double GER-bash to make it:
QR2: Richard Bloomfield WR 292 beat (q6) Benedikt Dorsch (GER) WR 163 by 3-6 6-3 6-4 FQR: Richard Bloomfield WR 292 v (q4) Benjamin Becker (GER) WR 138
Best known for beating Agassi in his last match at the USO and with a career high 100 places above where he is ranked now, Becker has been having a lean time of late.
The last Brit he played was another Norfolk boy, Aucks, whom he scraped past 5 & 5 in Newport in 2006. He also beat Hutch 4 & 4 in the Final of a Future in Canada in 2005 and Lee Childs in the previous week's Final in three sets. Of course, he improved hugely between 2005 and 2006/7 and has come off his peak since. His last loss to a Brit was to Robert Searle in Futures qualifying in the US 5 years ago!
There's an unintended bit of comedy in his ITF profile, given Boris's trouble with the tax authorities:
"No relation to former ATP pro Boris Becker. Father works as a tax officer for German government."

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Becker did not have it all his own way today...only getting in 56% of first serves in and against the WR298 Austrian he lost his serve twice...he did break 3 times himself. Won the first set on the TB to 7 and the one break in the second.
If Bloomers can serve to his best then I can see him really pushing for the win. RB served at almost 70% first serves in and 9 aces this morning...more of the same please.
