Madrid Masters R2: Murray v Bolelli

4th on court, so mid-afternoon sometime UK time.

Bolelli lost in the final round of qualifying, but got in as a Lucky Loser when Safin withdrew. He then beat Almagro in straight sets (but Almagro is not at his best off clay).

It should be a straightforward match for Andy, but the Italian is ranked 43 so is no pushover. There are no guaranteed easy matches in the smaller-draw Masters!

Murray might as well keep doing drop shots as Bolelli is not trying at all.

Just the news I want to come home to after a day of central government, research methods and shorthand lectures

The stats just suggest it's been too easy so far...

Shame to see Bolelli retire and to only get a couple of games of Murray seen, but looks like he was excellent in the first set, although Bolelli was struggling.

He's into the next round with a bit of rest as well, and Cilic in the 3rd round should be another step up, but really shouldn't trouble him too much

Bolleli retires at 0-6, *1-2 0-40.

A match that lasted 47 minutes (doesn't seem that long) and where Murray won 46 points to 22, including only dropping four points on serve.

Cilic played very well today though (except for nearly blowing a big lead in the second set) so will be a test, but Andy should still win.

Yay! I was a bit worried, wondering which Murray was going to show up. In the pre-match interview it sounded as though all his thoughts were on Shanghai, and he wasn't too bothered about this tournament.

But no - Aggressive Murray showed up and wiped the court with Bolelli even before he had shoulder problems.

However I have seen a bit of both of Cilic's matches so far - he is playing frighteningly well, so the next match will be much more of a test for Andy.

P.S. - I'm liking the haircut and clean-shaven look laughing.gif
