Bolelli lost in the final round of qualifying, but got in as a Lucky Loser when Safin withdrew. He then beat Almagro in straight sets (but Almagro is not at his best off clay).
It should be a straightforward match for Andy, but the Italian is ranked 43 so is no pushover. There are no guaranteed easy matches in the smaller-draw Masters!
0-15 - bad fh error into net after good Murray defence 15-15 - bh return is wide 15-30 - bh to bh rally ends when Boleli puts an inside out fh wide 15-40 - good defence and then a net cord gets Murray to the net, and a lovely bh volley 30-40 - good serve out wide Deuce - long rally, Bolelli on the offensive and ends with a bh floating long Adv B - fh return is long Game Bolelli - he moves to the net and puts the point away with a smash
15-0 - good serve out wide, and a great bh winner from Murray 15-15 - good return and Murray nets 30-15 - fh return is wide 40-15 - Ace 40-30 - too short from Murray and Bolelli hits a huge fh winner Game Murray - Ace down the middle
Shame to see Bolelli retire and to only get a couple of games of Murray seen, but looks like he was excellent in the first set, although Bolelli was struggling.
He's into the next round with a bit of rest as well, and Cilic in the 3rd round should be another step up, but really shouldn't trouble him too much
Yay! I was a bit worried, wondering which Murray was going to show up. In the pre-match interview it sounded as though all his thoughts were on Shanghai, and he wasn't too bothered about this tournament.
But no - Aggressive Murray showed up and wiped the court with Bolelli even before he had shoulder problems.
However I have seen a bit of both of Cilic's matches so far - he is playing frighteningly well, so the next match will be much more of a test for Andy.
P.S. - I'm liking the haircut and clean-shaven look
