Elena Baltacha got Great Britain's play off against Poland off to a great start with a straight sets victory over Katarzyna Piter.
The first set went with serve until the tenth game when Baltacha put the young Pole under enormous pressure and some nervy serving handed Baltacha the opening set.
Full of confidence Baltacha broke in the second game of the second set and again in the sixth game to give the British No.2 the chance to serve for the first rubber of the match. Despite the increasingly raucous noise coming from neighbouring centre court where Estonia were battling Belarus, Baltacha confidently wrapped up the set to give GB the early advantage.
