The race for spots is hotting up. Anne should be a definate but no-one else is certain really. Laura could be in with a shout but it is the week after the Australian Open juniors so she probably can't play both. Remembering that we lost the deciding doubles all three times this year, we really need a good pairing, so maybe Sarah/Mel who are our best doubles players in terms of results (except maybe Anna S) by far. Bally, Katie and Georgie will be in contention as well.
Nigel Sears may have been tempted to pick Laura rather than Bally had she not picked up an injury, and opted to compete if fit in 3 Australian junior tournaments. I guess she will be invited to join the squad for experience.
Interesting line up. Led by Anne who has come on a lot over the last year and Sarah's rise in doubles the team must be hoping to do really well. Mentally, the team should be stronger than ever.
I have collected together the WTA ranking of the top three singles and top two (doubles) players for each of the teams in our zone. It may be a bit early this year to think about promotion but it does look as if we may move up from the close to the bottom to somewhere in the middle. With our singles and doubles players getting stronger and the possible inclusion of Laura Robson in a year or two things are looking up.
OK, it is now the day before the week beginning 2nd February and I'm clearly looking in the wrong place for any information at all about this....I'm pretty sure this is a symptom of the fact that I am new to caring about the women beyond the information on here (which is usually far and away plentiful enough) so please could someone either post here (so I can continue to be lazy) or point me in the right direction!! Thanks :)

It starts on Wednesday with the draw Tuesday at 11am GMT. I think the seeding pots will look like this (if they have the pot with three teams being the last pot). Austria, Bulgaria & Luxembourg would be nice.
Pot 1 (19) Croatia (21) Austria (25) Sweden (26) Netherlands
Pot 2 (28) Belarus (30) Hungary (32) Romania (34) Bulgaria
Pot 3 (37) Slovenia (38) Poland (39) Luxembourg (40) Denmark
Pot 4 (42) Great Britian (45) Estonia (46) Bosnia Herzegovina
Singles and doubles (in brackets) rankings of the teams in Pool A
Netherlands Arantxa Rus 152 (451) (world junior #1 for a while last year) Nicole Thyssen 247 (156) Michelle Gerards 257 (408) Pauline Wong 458 (356)
Hungary Agnes Szavy 25 (64) Greta Arn 157 (unr) Katalin Marosi 183 (256) Zsofia Susanyi unr (unr) (ranked 21 in juniors)
Luxembourg Mandy Minella 327 (413) Claudine Schaul 377 (285) (CH of 41 in '04) Anne Kremer 480 (unr) (CH of 18 in '02) Fabienne Thill unr (unr) (and hasn't played since 1999!)
Great Britain Anne Keothavong 54 (123) Melanie South 99 (122) Elena Baltacha 108 (946) Sarah Borwell 363 (99)
The great thing is that this year the GB women have good chances if they play well against all these teams even though all 3 opposing teams have classy players despite the rankings. When was the last time we expected rather than hoped for good results - not for a long time for me anyway. All of our players are at career highs, have started the year well so must be feeling confident, so it's great. I'm looking forward to seeing how they step up.
OK, it is now the day before the week beginning 2nd February and I'm clearly looking in the wrong place for any information at all about this.... Well, your doing a damn site better than I am - until reading this, I'd assumed it was like a Davis Cup away match - i.e. just us vs. Estonia. Didn't realise everyone was playing there!
That's a pretty decent draw to be honest, as realistically, you'd be disappointed if we lost to Holland or Luxemburg, while Hungary are going to rely a lot on Szavay, who Anne beat a few weeks ago.
To be honest, I'd fancy us to get through this, as long as the girls play as well as they can.
It's a good draw, but the Hungary tie looks tough. Arn/Szavay easily beat Mel/Bally in the doubles last year, and came close to beating the strong Swiss team of Schnyder/Gagliardi, so they will be favourites for the doubles whichever pair we put out (we could have done with playing Hungary last to give our first choice doubles pair some experience - I expect if the match is poised at 1-1 then Anne will be asked to partner Sarah if not too tired after her singles, but otherwise I imagine it will be Mel/Sarah). Bally should beat Arn (I would expect Bally's experience and form to win her the nod over Mel), but as a former top 100 player Arn will not be a pushover. Szavay's poor form makes her match against Anne a 50-50 call I reckon.
