The Madrid AMS Battle of the Boards pick 'em will be getting under way this weekend and the entry window may be VERY tight, as explained below.
IMPORTANT DATES
The main draw will not take place until late afternoon on Saturday, so realistically by the time they publish it online and I get it onto the entry form, the entry form without qualifiers placed will be available sometime on Saturday evening UK time, mid-afternoon US time.
The main draw starts on Sunday so entries may have to close when play is due to start, i.e. at 09.00 GMT = 10 am UK = 11 am CET = 5 am US EDT on SUNDAY, which seems to be when the ATP is closing entries for its Bracket Challenge.
However, the exact closing time will be confirmed when entries open, by which time I hope the Sunday OoP will be up and it will be clear whether the main draw matches are scheduled to start at 11 am Madrid time or, as I suspect, a bit later in the day.
I'm not at all surprised that nobody involved in organising the tournament has considered that the combination of an unusually late Saturday main draw and an early Sunday start of play in the main draw messes up prediction competitions like this ... except that given that the ATP are running a Bracket Challenge for this event too, you'd think someone would have raised an objection to the main draw being done so late!
Anyway, you may have just a few hours on Saturday night and early Sunday morning to enter, so if it is important to you not to miss this pick 'em, please be prepared!
Emails will be sent out at the relevant time to those who have asked for them.
IF YOU WILL NOT HAVE INTERNET ACCESS ON SATURDAY EVENING / SUNDAY MORNING
Since only one or two people have taken advantage of the totally 'blind' entry form at RG and Wimby, I am not going to offer this option for the AMS events, especially since missing an AMS pick 'em tends to be not nearly as critical to your overall ranking as not getting any score for a slam would be.
However, if you aren't going to have Internet access between mid-evening on Saturday and early morning on Sunday UK time and you really don't want to miss this pick 'em, you could always send your picks to a friend (in the form R1: player 1 to beat player 2, player 4 to beat player 3, etc; R2: player 1 to beat player 4, etc) and ask them to enter for you.
If you are going to do this though, please let me know at btpickem@hotmail.com to avoid any chance of it getting treated as a multiple entry by the same person and disallowed.

The other thing I've done when unable to access a computer is rank all the entrants (and potential qualifiers) in order of preference, pass this list to a friend and get him to enter for me once the draw is made, with each match being won by the person higher up my preference order. Very time-consuming and doesn't enable you to adjust selections according to whether people's style works against their opponent or based on the probability of them having got through earlier rounds (although you could attach a % rating to each player) etc., but better than more blind forms of picking.
Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive.... those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience
The deadline is now 12.30 GMT on Sunday (1.30 pm UK, 8.30 am US Eastern, 5.30 am US Pacific) since that's the time play in the main draw is actually due to start.
The qualifiers won't be known at that stage, so when picking matches involving a qualifier, what you really need to decide is whether the other player is more likely than not to beat or lose to a random qualifier. The responsibility for this silly scheduling rests with the Madrid organiser and the good news is, of course, that everyone is in the same boat!
We ended up with 178 entrants, our equal 2nd biggest AMS pick 'em so far, which is amazing given how short the entry window was and that Tennisopolis (the team that had over 100 entrants for the USO) seem to have collectively gone to sleep again. Only Cincy had a bigger entry for an AMS pick 'em and Miami 2008 had the same number of entrants as we've got this time.
All of the usual detailed results pages, updated to the end of Madrid AMS day 1, can now be accessed from http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html- intra-day updates will start from tomorrow, Monday.
Those fighting for high positions in the overall individual and team rankings, where it's very tight at the top, have got just this event and the Paris AMS pick 'em in two weeks' time to amass more ranking points before the end of the year.
The following players have been picked as winners by at least one entrant - Rafa shades 'most popular winner pick' by the narrowest of margins!
Gulbis, Pics, Flake, Potty and the Undertaker also figure among finalist picks.
Indeed, with so many strong players and hard to pick matches in this tournament (e.g. for one of the QF spots, 37% of us have gone for Flake, 37% for the Undertaker, 19% for Dinara's lower-ranked brother, 6% for Simon and 2% for Ee-gor), there is everything to play for and it should be a very exciting week!
Good luck and have fun!
