Week 41 - Womens ITF (25K) - Traralgon, Australia

The quartet who played in the September 25Ks down under (Naomi Broady, Elizabeth Thomas, Jocelyn Rae and Sophie Proctor) have been joined by Melanie South and Emily Webley-Smith for the October series. Em will be looking to replace the distressing experience she had here earlier in the year with something much more positive. And she started well by winning the consolation singles at this week's Australian Money Tournament.

Mel and Naomi are in the main draw. In qualifying (3 rounds):

QR 1:

Saori Karikomi (JPN) v Jocelyn Rae (GBR, 13)
Elizabeth Thomas (GBR,6) v Bye
Lucie Gonzalez (AUS) v Sophie Proctor (GBR)
Deanna Batsas (AUS) v Emily Webley-Smith (GBR, 11)

Jos has a nightmare draw, as the other seed in her section is junior star Isabella Holland, a finalist in the last 25K in Australia.

Jos surprisingly lost in QR1, but the 2 who had realistic chances of qualifying made it through to the final qualifying round:

That's true, it's one of the better trips out of the LTA-organised ones - just how well they did last year was brought home by looking at all the points the GB top 25 girls have to defend from Australian 25Ks over the next few weeks ...
