RE: Week 41 - Challenger (€42,500 + H) - Rennes,France

thanks for the heads up john, certinaly might explain a bit, espcially if they were expecting fast surface, which generally our guys prefer. in hindsight maybe going for the atpq's might have been better. but it doesnt reallty excuse that the 2 alex's were in positiions that winning wouldnt not be unreasonable. cant say for bloomers as we may think there could be a injury.

a shame that alex plays aucks so one goes out. shame they they didnt link up, but boggo plaus with vlad a few times so i guess its not that suprising.
were the dubs played on he faster court?

Nationalities: I'm not the person to comment on this because I tend to know or be able to guess them apart from mixing up a few of the South Americans and Spaniards and often thinking Calleri comes from Italy! However, I think they're worth showing - e.g. the fact that a Brit is playing someone else in their own country can be quite relevant.

It's a very fair point about the courts being slow because they had just been relaid. However, the fact remains that in eight attempts over the three years that the Rennes Challenger has been running, Brits have failed to get past R1 seven times despite being seeded three times, the only GB success having come when Bloomers reached the QFs and took eventual winner Tsonga to 3 sets a couple of years ago.

The doubles were indeed played on a quicker court.

Goodall/Bubka actually hit a service winner on match point today, but it was called out despite allegedly being on the line. Josh is quite ill atm so didn't bother too much about it but apparently Bubka was extremely unhappy.

So - Jean-Julien Rojer (AHO) / Jim Thomas (USA) beat Bloomfield/Mergea then beat Goodall/Bubka shortly they will play Auckland/Norman - will it be revenged?
