Good fight from Chris but so disappointing as he came so close to claiming a massive scalp. Oh well, performances like this bode well for the future of Chris' career...
That's a real pity - a great effort, but this was probably his chance to beat Stakhovsky, when he would have been virtually unknown to him and Stakh expecting an easy match.
I'd expect Stakh to have worked him out and beat him more easily if they ever face each other again.
Still, very encouraging, if only he could take this form into Challengers and Futures where there are points on offer, he might actually be able to consolidate his ranking a bit and be looking at less of a dive when the Wimby points come off next year.
There's still time, of course, but this indoor season, when he can make his big serve count, is crucial I think. I wonder if he'll continue taking his chances in the bigger events, given that he seems to play better there.

Big Serving indeed - 8 Aces but 8 Double Faults also, the most crucial that last one that finished the match of course - that's the risk taken when going for big serves.
Given how important the luck of the draw is at Wimby, I think it's safest to assume he won't and get a nice surprise if he does. I think Andy Murray was the first Brit for years and years to win a round at Wimby two years in succession without being in the top 100 both years. If he's assuming he will and that it doesn't matter what he does between now and then, then he's nuts (and I'm sure he's not!)

oh no off course im not saying he shouldnt go forth and gain lots of points to back up his wiimby win but its like your saying WHEN they come off as opposed to he has a mighty big haul to defend around june next year!
Ok, fair enough - they will come off whatever happens, but we can hope he gets some more to replace them at Wimby next year. I'd just like to see him scoring more points in Futures and Challengers now to convince us, and more importantly himself, that his ranking isn't artificially high at the moment.

ii agree with what you just said! was pleased he got some wins at challenger level though and this run in ATPQ is also convincing but he does need the points to back it up now
Just for the record, Jamie Murray has popped up in the doubles here, playing with Feliciano López (ESP). Only trouble is, they've been drawn to play the top seeds, the Polish pair, Mariusz Fyrstenberg & Marcin Matkowski, in the first round! If they're still alive to tell the tale in R2, it'll be a minor miracle!
The match has just started. Jamie has lost his last five matches against these dammed Poles, so like you I am not holding out much hope.
