BTW, Jonny's due to play Olivier Rochus no earlier than 17.00 BST tomorrow & Delgo & Haggard, if they beat Moser & Norman earlier this evening, face the top seeds, Mertinak & Zovko (SVK/CRO), no earlier than 19.30 BST...

Results now up on the ATP site:  Delgo & Haggard won 7-6(4) 6-1, while H & H lost 4-6 7-6(5) [5-10].  smile cry  Close for H & H, but, unfortunately, not close enough...! hmm

Really? My daughter is doing the GNR as well.

Good Luck to her.  It's a great event and my son tested out the medical services 2 years ago so we know they work very well!  Thankfully he was fine last year.

Malisse is now ranked 163.

Another thing - qualifying then winning a round is worth as many points (12) as reaching the QFs of a bog-standard Challenger, so Jonny will be back in the top 500 next Monday, improving by about 70 places to around 480th. smile.gif That's twice he's made it back into the top 500 after injuries in the last 2-3 years.

Maybe Jonny (who like Eaton also seems to do better in front of a crowd and likes fast courts) is now playing himself into DC contention too ...

Jonny's got a 6 out of 6 record versus Ukrainians too!  wink

It's close, but Jonny lost the 1st set on a tiebreak. 3-3 in the 2nd.

-hotos of Jonny playing against Malisse can be found on the Mons site as follows:

1) Go to http://www.ethiastrophypictures.be/ethiastrophy/FR

2) Click on "Découvrir les photos" at the bottom

3) Click on "2008-09-30" in the first white box

4) Click on "Reportage" in the second white box

5) Click on "Matchs de la soirée"

6) Click on a pic about halfway down (Jonny's in white shirt, black shorts) - pics 34-36, 40, 44, 49 and 58-61 are of him, the in between pics are of Malisse looking more and more frustrated as the match goes on.

Sadly, that was as close as it got, as MTF records a 76 63 loss! cry

Still - a good start to his most productive part of the season (usually) the European Indoor circuit.

Xavier Malisse's after match interview in Flemish, translated from a Dutch to English free webtool, it's barely decipherable, but there's something about funny English that is.......... well, funny.

Malisse: This way not much pleasure can have lived
the real not further Xavier Malisse to the challenger tournament in mounts. He had himself surprised immediately by Jonathan Marray (ATP-551) in the first round. Perhaps it better that I two go weeks on holiday, tells he is. Malisse (ATP-167) played belabberd against the briton and lost with 7-5 and 6-3.
Tja, it go then already difficult with my faith and then get you an antagonist who gives no rhythm, sighed he in the last news.
Everything go wrongly. Thus is not possible it really further. Stand I sharp, always win I. In games succeeds nothing. That proves that I heal deeply sit.
I normally play Challengers still two, but perhaps am it better that I go two weeks on holiday and empty my head.
Afterwards am possible I to my physical work for strong to be by new year, hope the belgian.

I particularly like : It go then already difficult with my faith and then get you an antagonist who gives no rhythm sighed he in the last news. rofl.gif

I think he means he was struggling with his confidence and then jonny spoiled it even more by rushing to the net when he was trying to concentrate!! biggrin

Xavier should be very pleased with Jonny - just look how his defeat has inspired him to work hard in the off season!

"Xavier Malisse tells Belgian newspaper La Libre that he is training hard in Florida hoping to make an impact next season. "[This was] a year to forget as soon as possible," said Malisse, who was also hampered by recurring wrist problems during the season. "My defeat at the Mons [challenger to the No. 551] was the last straw. I decided to start my day at 9 a.m. instead of 11 a.m., work harder physically and pay more attention to what I eat."
