Now that's what I call boundless optimism!

I imagine the score stopped before showing the final point and 'bash bagelled the t/b - it looks like his serving was on fire today. That's the way he got to a 4-0 H2H over Ernests Gulbis (the fourth win was earlier this month) and how he beat Gonzo at the USO last year and both Ferrero & Mahut in Rotterdam a few months ago.

Wasn't 'bash the one who consigned Sheddie to the Shed? (or am I getting mixed up?)

Either way, it wasn't the best of draws, though obviously a loss is disappointing I don't think we need to write Boggo off forever, especially if there's a chance he's still recovering from injury.

That's really disappointing if not unexpected. Too many commitments to get to Mons over the weekend or today but if the OOP is kind to me, maybe I'll get to see Jonny or Ross.

yes its shame that boggo couldnt play grenoble, would have been a much better chance for him. was tough to come straight into thsi match from a differnt surface and possibly not 100%. (if i find out anythign there i'll let you know)

so alex has 6 events left to get his career heading back in the right direction for the start of 09.
Rennes and Kolding now are looking quite important, Alex should be a high seed in Rennes and its touch and go for Kolding as to whether he will be seeded. a couple of good weeks then can hlep turn it around (i know he has 21 points coming off soon). In a way i am hoping he will play the easier challengers towrads the end of the season, much safer chance of picking up points to edge his ranking up getting seeded can be so vital at these events, especially the odd ones where for soem reason there are a few really top players.

also i believe that he wont go for the ATPQ but will instead take a week off, which maybe a good idea to try and make sure he is fresh for the final month.

Indeed he was, making him one of our favourite players on here, even if not when he plays the Bogster!

The thread's worth a read for old time's sake:

"Re: Gabashvilli in Paris: Him getting in as a lucky loser is kind of annoying but I'm pretty sure he won't overtake as I reckon Johansson will beat Spadea. If Johansson loses to Gabashvilli in rd2 I will sleep in the garden shed for 40 nights."

... and much later, the Count said it all:

"2 more match points......

and thats it game set and shed. i have never known such joy watching a russin beat a swede." biggrin

Judging by the OoP on the Mons site, Jonny qualified (so that's 3 points) but got the second worst draw, Malisse.

Good win for Jonny, but tight:  7-6(5) 3-6 7-6(2)! *eek*  His encounter with Malisse will happen no earlier than 19.00 BST tomorrow... pray.gif

Wow smile.gif

That's a triple Belge-bash for Jonny after he took out two in qualifying, he must be making lots of friends there wink

It could be another Belgian next too - Ollie Rochus if he beats Falla.

Malisse is now ranked 163.

Another thing - qualifying then winning a round is worth as many points (12) as reaching the QFs of a bog-standard Challenger, so Jonny will be back in the top 500 next Monday, improving by about 70 places to around 480th. smile.gif That's twice he's made it back into the top 500 after injuries in the last 2-3 years.

Maybe Jonny (who like Eaton also seems to do better in front of a crowd and likes fast courts) is now playing himself into DC contention too ...

Good one Jonny. That's a good win against Malisse.
