RE: Week 40 - Challenger (€106.5k+H) - Mons, Belgium

Tough draw for Alex but TG (WR89) is beatable. So is Vanek WR117 & the Swede WR181.

Would be great for Alex to win but would be surprised.

Slight amendment to Steven's first post - as picked up by Drew later, Jonny played Mario Dierckx, ranked 1803 (CH 1512) Guess they are brothers but how confusing!

Mario dob 18 Sep 89

Hmm. I know Activeboard is sometimes doing double posts, but I just posted something and it hasn't appeared at all!

I said that Gaba is flashy but can play some good tennis, from the little I have seen of him (one full match and a couple of bits). We'll have to hope he is not in the mood for good tennis.

Thanks for the correction, I did a search for Dierckx on the steveg ranking list and the first name it found was Marco's so I thought I must have misread the first name on the drawsheet so changed it to Marco intead of continuing to search!

Recap + a bit extra

QR1: Jamie Delgado UNR beat (8) Stefan Wauters (BEL) WR 590 by 3 & 3 biggrin
QR1: (q7) Jonny Marray WR 550 beat Mario Dierckx (BEL) WR 1803 by 1 & 2 smile

One of those days when you wish Del would stop messing around with doubles (not do it exclusively anyway) and become a Challenger level singles player again! Well done to him smile

QR2: Jamie Delgado UNR v Andrea Falgheri (ITA) WR 1035
QR2: (q7) Jonny Marray WR 550 v Maxime Authom (BEL) WR 682

The other seed in Jonny's section is (q4) Vladimir Obradovic (SRB) WR 403 and the remaining seed in Jamie's section is Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA) WR 184, though from the OoP it looks like only QR2 is being played today.

L32: Alex Bogdanovic WR 163 v (7) Teimuraz Gabashvili (RUS) WR 89

What a ridiculously strong Challenger this is, with all of the seeds ranked in the top 100! Boggo has played 'bash once before, losing to him 7-6(4) 6-2 at the Belgrade Challenger back in 2004. Funnily enough, Lee Childs beat him in the following round there!

A 5 & 3 win over Josh in Nottingham last year is 'bash's only recent Brit-'bashing experience.

Hutch & Huss are the third seeds in the doubles.  They face Yves Allegro & Horia Tecau (SUI/ROU) in the first round.  In the other half of the draw Delgo has Chris Haggard as his partner.  They face Frank Moser & Delgo's some-time partner, Dick Norman, in Round 1.  Could be interesting...

*  The top seeds are Michal Mertinak & Lovro Zovko (SVK/CRO).

Boggo is 4th on Centre on Monday, 2nd after 13.00 GMT. It looks like only two QR2 matches finished today, but maybe they are still intending to play the rest, because the FQR matches are also scheduled for tomorrow as ... or ... v ... or ... matches without the remaining QR2 matches being scheduled for tomorrow as well.

Despite defending 9 points from last year Alex starts the week up 1 place at 170 as Munoz de la Nava goes below him.

If he wins today he would move up another place ahead of Dlouhy
