Thank you, that's an excellent article - even the timeline / tournament details are accurate, which is unusual for a local paper (or even some of the nationals) - I hadn't realised that Colin never meant to come back when he retired to go back to uni, I'm really glad he changed his mind! smile.gif

Ooh, Steven, eggshells underfoot ... The Herald is one of Scotland's two National 'heavies'. biggrin

Oh, Glasgow's version of 'The Scotsman'? That explains the good writing then! I assumed that the "Glasgow" in Glasgow Herald meant it was a local, though I guess any Glasgow or Edinburgh paper is likely to be very influential up there.

Btw Leonte has a 10-3 record against Brits, but most of the wins were against players outside the top 1000 (he picks up many of his points at the African Futures, which can be a bit of an adventure but generally offer easier points than Futures elsewhere) and he has lost to Matt Illingworth this year and Hutch and Morgan Phillips in the past, even dropping a set to Amadeus once.

Doh! Thought Rice was gonna win that one. cry

He's got a W1 L12 record in 2nd Rounds now.  Needs to start winning some of those soon.

Fleming clap.gifclap.gif Nice work by him!

I'd love to see him hit challenger level again and see where it goes

I'd love to see him given Challenger WC in the UK when they next happen... clearly, Col is still a top 500 player- a couple of tournies to get back in the swing, but v. consistent since then, and beating people top 500.

Great result - I was hopeful he'd win, but not quite that easily smile.gif

Just realised that I didn't update from last week's rankings to this week's when I did the L16 pairings, so I'll correct that for the QFs:

QF: (Q) Colin Fleming WR 980 v (5) Daniel Danilovic (MNE) WR 768

Danilovic was a bit of a Brit-basher in the August UK Futures, but his run was ended by Dan Evans both times, in the QFs and in a Final. He has a 7-6 record against Brits since 2004, tending to beat those outside the top 500 and lose to those who are inside the top 500 or should be. (not wanting to tempt fate, I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions from that!)

Colin has faced him across the net twice since his comeback started but in doubles not singles. Colin and partner won easily both times.

Still waiting for Josh of course.

Yes, that would be great. If we can end up with 10-12 regular Challenger players (*) early next year, that would count as real progress I think. It was the lack of players in Challengers late last year and early this year that made that period seem so bad.

Of course, it depends as much as anythng on players staying clear of injuries. I don't know whether we've just been lucky so far this year (apart from Baker and Phillips and a few short-term problems) or if they're managing to do some injury avoidance work at the NTC which is helping. Hopefully the latter (since then it might continue), but probably the former.

(*) i.e. Boggo, Josh, Bloomers, Slabba, Baker, Eaton, Wardy, Marray, Evans, Fleming and perhaps also Skupski (though he seems to have gone 'off' a bit recently) and one of the other young ones like Cox.

Got it in one, Steven! Yes, the west's counterpart to the 'Scotsman', though a little less right-wing. The Scotsman writes very well on rugby, but The Herald tends to be better on minor sports, or those of less general public interest, such as tennis.
