Poll: Will it be a good Friday?

It seems quite unusual to have six Brits (4 men and 2 women) still in action on Friday of a week that hasn't been rain-affected. They are, all times in UK time:

10 am - Greece 10K SF: (Q) Colin Fleming WR 1078 v (4) Mathieu Guenat (SUI) WR 753

11 am - Spain 15K QF: (3) James Ward WR 393 v (6) Cesar Ferrer-Victoria (ESP) WR 465

12 pm - France 10K QF: (7) Emily Webley-Smith WR 692 v (4) Samantha Schoeffel (FRA) WR 591

2 pm - Sweden 15K SF: (1) Alex Slabinsky WR 293 v (3) Mathieu Rodrigues (FRA) WR 407 - live stream at http://www2.tennis.se/tavling/intern...efutures2a.htm

6 pm - Shrewsbury 75K QF: (WC) Laura Robson UNR v (4) Tzipi Obziler (ISR) WR 123 - both Wolf & Vamos are going to be there, so look out for some text updates being relayed to here

Late - Mexico 10K QF: Timothy Bradshaw WR 1880 v (1) Marcel Felder (URU) WR 329 - no OoP but likely to be evening UK time

The Brit is higher-ranked in just two of these matches, and even in those matches they are playing opponents seeded just three places behind them. How many do you think will get through to the weekend?

Ever since I joined the site, a year or so ago, I've avoided taking part in any of the prediction competitions - thought it was time to stick my head above the parapet!

Well Alex's win in Sweden makes 1, so not all is lost!

Unfortunately Colin has lost in his semi-finals..

So 1/2 so far.

Best I don't join the inter-board guessing games, I think!

Mine were nameless, as it it was based on a probability calculation- what is slabba's probability of winning, Laura's etc. (I had both at 0.5), all summed.

As is the way with statistics, this means I must be wrong, with 2.2 people winning...

I thought 0.4 Colin, 0.8 James, 0.2 Wobbly, 0.7 Slabba (would have been 0.9 had I seen Rodrigues serve first!), 0.3 Laura, 0.1 Timothy, which totals 2.6 so I went for 3, i.e. hoping for the higher ranked Brits to win and one surprise, though my most likely surprise bit the dust in 3 sets!

3-3 in the end, so most people got it right smile.gif

Three Brits still in singles action in current tournaments on the Saturday when it isn't because of rain earlier in the week, whatever next! Not to mention the three Brits in main tour qualifying in Metz. All times are UK time:

12 pm - Sweden 15K FINAL: (1) Alex Slabinsky WR 293 v (2) Michael Ryderstedt (SWE) WR 335 - live stream at http://www2.tennis.se/tavling/international/SWE_F2a_Web/swefutures2a.htm - despite the rankings, Ryderstedt is the hot favourite here

12 pm - Shrewsbury 75K SF: (WC) Laura Robson UNR v (2) Maret Ani (EST) WR 105 - the Wolf will be there again - what a treat those living near Shrewsbury are getting this week - so hopefully we will get text updates

N/B 3.30 pm - Spain 15K SF: (3) James Ward WR 393 v (1) Filip Prpic (SWE) WR 350 (with the two Dans Cox & Evans playing Capkovic & Sitak in the doubles Final beforehand)

Yes, that's right, live streaming from Sweden AND text scores from Shrewsbury from 12 - don't miss it!! smile.gif
