Bloomers/Amritraj follow Josh onto court 2
Surprise surprise (not) their 'Opponents' in Bucharest Cruciat/Mergea won today  with another walkover.
Has anyone ever won an event without playing a match I wonder?

My guess is that it was a copy and paste slip up after using a previous file as a template.

Go on Josh! Time to start going deep into these challengers and make the top 150 by the end of the year.

Anyone think he will still be ignored for Davis Cup if he gets into the top 150? It's not like we're in a situation to be able to ignore a player of that ranking, then again I didn't think we were in a position to ignore a player of Josh's current ranking who is equally proficient in both doubles and single, but we did.

its hard to say, a lot depends on andy and alex. if andy wants to play and alex has improved his ranking and is getting back towards the top 100 then it will be tough if JL wants to take dubs specialists.
also baker may be back in the mix then. (although he may decide to concentrate on his singles ranking)

if andy gives it a miss then josh should be in.
will jl decide to give boggo another go? i really have no idea, but despite the outraged calls on bbc 606 i'd be very suprised if that was the last dc tie he ever played.

if thes no andy and alex then the josh could go into the tie as GB no1 which would be a turn around. harman suggests JG has been mending his bridges recently which may help.

at the moment theres just to many varibale out there to say.

we do have strength in depth, its just a shame that that depth is right at the deep end of the pool :)

with regrads to josh reaching the top 150 by the end of the year, he will need a big imporvement, he currently on around 200pts, and you need about 300pts for that. so % wise thats quite a large ammout. he is defending 43 pts till the end of the year as well (minus the future from last week and of cousre the points so far this week).

if he can get there it would be a superb achivement tho.

Just a quick point also that I feel needs to be made, with reference to the shouting and balling of a certain member on the other thread about the perceived dismissal of Jamie Baker on this board (which is of course utter and complete nonsense, everyone here loves Jamie!), is that Josh is currently ranked higher than Jamie's career high! Something to think about imo, as many seem to think that Jamie should walk back in as the number 2 player if he's fit whilst meanwhile Josh literally doesn't even get a single chance in the squad, never mind as a live rubber player!

That's a fair point, and yes, for someone to accuse this board, of all places, of being anti-Jamie Baker shows how little they know about us and suggests to me someone whose only agenda is to twist anything they can find into perceived anti-Scottish bias. I couldn't be bothered to reply on the thread itself, because reading that post was enough to make anyone lose the will to live bleh

While I agree with that in the long term I think that Baker deserves to be picked again based upon his performance in Argentina. Sometimes a lesser player is motivated to great things when representing their country and if JB is going to consistently overperform in Davis Cup ties then we'll want him in the squad. If the Calleri (iirc) match is proven to be a one-off because it was his first appearance then by all means give Josh a try, but I would let a match-fit Baker have first dibs (regardless of the opinions of the minority of unhinged caledonian paranoics).

Hi Guys,

I have not seen the thread about the perceived dismissal of JB on this board. I am Scottish and have never come across anything like that at all. I think if anything though it might be an over defensive response to some of the vile that gets posted on 606 regarding Andy Murray and his suposed Anti-Englishness which I am beginning to get incredibly p****d off at!! As it is I think Josh deserves a chance in DC but hopefully Jamie can find some sort of form and healthiness and get himself back up the rankings.
