RE: Week 39 - Futures F5 (10k) - Paros, Greece

I note that Colin Fleming's name is not among next week's entries; is that his season over, with a return to university on the cards, do we know? That would be good for Colin, but a shame for those of us who have so enjoyed watching him cause chaos in main draws, having had to come through qualifying!

Colin wouldn't be returning to uni, he finished his final year 2 years ago before spending a year in the city I think

I'd imagine that he'll be in qualies/asking for a SE for next week having not bothered to enter knowing he wouldn't make the cut

Odd, so was he at uni (but not concentrating on it) when he was playing before? Either that or the years have passed very fast!

Perhaps he's twigged onto the fact that a career in tennis is safer than a career in the City at the moment. wink

He'd done 3 yrs of a uni degree before and Sterling gave him a yr out to try tennis as a pro (which he got extended to 2 yrs) before they issued an ultimatum saying that if he didn't come back to do his masters year then he'd never be able to complete it....so he did that

Quarterfinal

Dimitris KLEFTAKOS (GER) defeated Joshua MILTON (GBR) 6-2 6-0 cry
Colin FLEMING (GBR) defeated Dennis BLOEMKE (GER) (8) 3-6 7-5 6-0 biggrin

Semifinal

Mathieu GUENAT (SUI) (4) Vs Colin FLEMING (GBR)

Hopefully Colin can reach the 6th Futures/Satellite final of his career.  Think he's got a pretty good chance by the form he appears to be in.

Go Colin!!

Well done to Colin again, good to see him back on the tennis circuit. As for next week, he may have simply decided to have the week off, it does happen wink.gif

Shame for Josh though, that's not the most flattering of scorelines but he seems to be making relatively steady progress still overall.

This is a fantastic return to tennis for Colin. He seems to be flying right now. Maybe he will be able to better his previous best rankings in singles and doubles.

Colin graduated with a 1st in Economics before taking a graduate job so he had soemthing to fall back on, but got his head in the right place to go back, Stirling Uni appeared to support throughout... suprsed they've not got him back on the 'books' for BUSA smile

see he's made the finals of doubles also.

believe he's in greece next week then not on til Glasgow.

Great run he's had though, older mind and training paying off??

Just to confirm that statement:  Scottish Colin & Irish Colin dumped out the top seeds, Danilovic & Paukku, 2 & 4 today & play the likewise unseeded Germans, Blömke & Kleftakos, in the doubles final tomorrow (?)! smile clap.gif

Thanks for the information, Laura and Sheddie, and for the suggestions, Bethan and freerider; nice to be 'in the picture'.

Lemke beat the wonder-kid David Goffin in semis.

Colin's got a good chance of taking the title I reckon now. pray.gif
