Laura wins 3 & 3 - crazy! biggrinbiggrin

That's straight into the top 600 (and GB top 12) if she gets a point in her next event. Not bad for a few weeks!

No. 2 seed Maret Ani awaits in the Final.

I can't believe she made the semi's - go Laura!!!smile

Apologies for getting a round ahead ashamed now corrected in the original post.

Magnificent to follow up yesterday's win with another of similar calibre at her age.

Incidentally Sarah has recaptured the British no.1 spot in doubles with her run to the final.

What a result. I hope Laura loves the media attention because it's going to get very big very soon!

Laura seems to have a very good team around her which I believe includes her Mum. Keeping the press at bay will get more and more difficult if she keeps this trend up. I am sure that some of the Daily's would have had their tennis jurnos there today !

Absolutely terrific - well done to a 14 year old who seems to be handling the pressure exceptionally well at present. Roll on the SF.

Laura is on the Alts list for the $50K in Joue-Les-Tours starting 6th October. So if she goes into the main draw there or wins a match in the Qualifiers she should get a ranking at the end of the week.

Laura is entered in back to back 50K tournaments in France (6th and 13th October) but she will almost certainly need wild cards to compete as she is too low down the entry lists, not having a world ranking or any points when the lists were published.

BBC have a short report up....quick for them !!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7635027.stm

"I'm very pleased with the way I played - my coach and I worked on a game plan and it obviously worked," said Robson.

"The semi-final will be a tough match and I am looking forward to it."

The teenager will now play Estonia's Maret Ani after the world number 105 beat Belgian Kirsten Flipkens 7-6 6-3 in her quarter-final match.

Well chuffed. Nice one Laura. What a week it would be if she reaches the final and went on to win. Wouldn't expect her to beat Ani in the semi's at 105 but then didn't think she would beat Obziler today. Fantastic.

I came to Welti hoping to get there in time for the start of the doubles, but managed to see then end of the Ani v Flipkins match, which was very entertaining from what I saw. As I went upstairs to the balcony (they had a temporary stand made on Court 2, which the spectators were directed to) I saw a big sign on the door saying 'guests and officals only', which seemed strange as then there was no way then you could see the action going on Court 4, but I ignored the sign and proceeded in anyway, and you could watch both the doubles matches, which I divided my attention equally between.

(2) Anna Smith (GBR) / Johanna Larsson (SWE) beat Katalin Marosi (HUN) / Marina Tavares (BRA) 6-3, 6-4

It's no wonder that Anna and Johanna have had such a succesful partnership this year, they are both very good doubles players who seems to enjoy each others company. Marosi and Tavares are solid but nothing flash. A break in each set was enough for the British / Swedish duo the first achieved after two Smith backhands bisected her opponents, and the second again came from the backhand of Smith, this time going for a winner down the line with the old 'look one way and hit the ball the other way' trick. Johanna played her part as well, and together they make a tough pair to beat.

(1) Sarah Borwell (GBR) / Courtney Nagle (USA) beat (3) Stefania Boffa (SUI) / Nikola Frankova (CZE) 6-4, 3-6, 10-6

A tough hard fought match, but one I felt Sarah and Courtney should have won in straight sets, but no matter. A break apiece to start with, and Sarah and Courtney broke again late on in the set. In the second just the one break for Boffa and Frankova, for the second time it was Courtney broken. In the tie-break, the crowd had started to gather in anticipation of Laura's match, and they got behind Sarah and Courtney who responded brilliantly, playing an almost faultless tie-break getting pegged back from 4-1 to 5-4, but going to 9-4 when errors came from the opposition, and two service holds from I think Frankova just delayed the inevitable. Sarah served great tonight, and it is difficult to find to many weaknesses with her and Courtney as a pairing.

It is impossible to call the doubles final, which will be played last match on Sunday.

(7) Roberta Vinci (ITA) beat Vanessa Henke (GER) 6-2, 6-2

I went to check upstairs on the balcony on the progress of this match after the doubles, and I joined with Vinci in total command at 4-1 with a double break, and she continued that domination with as she eased to the first set, playing exceptionally well. I am definately backing her to beat Barrois in the semis tommorow.

Laura Robson (GBR) beat (4) Tzipi Obziler (ISR) 6-3, 6-3

After seeing Laura play on Wednesday, I thought to myself, 'definately will be top 100, should be top 50, could be top 10.' After seeing her today I will change that to 'definately will be top 50, should be top 10, could be no.1'. She played some seriously good tennis today. Seriously. Her backhand is like a dream. Her forehand is extremley useful. Her serving is effortless. And on her returns she takes the ball so early she immediately forces her opponent on the backfoot. And that is not to mention her incredible composure and lack of stage fright. Today she must have hit between 20-30 winners. She only had to save two break points, both in the first game of the second set. The veteran Oblizer didn't show much of her experience, continually hitting to Laura's backhand, her strength, and continually getting punished.

Now a note on the organising of this event. Firstly, I have to praise the organisers for having the intiative to have an evening session, it clearly drew the crowds in. But now for the criticism. It is £6 to get in for each of today, Saturday and Sunday. Now I don't mind that, but to pay that I want to see as much tennis as possible. I don't want to see a sign saying 'officials and guests only' suddenly appear on a door today, which was put there to prevent people from going on the balcony above the courts, meaning I couldn't watch Court 4 (legally). Now I went in anyway, sod the rules and all that, but a more withdrawn person than myself, or someone who hadn't already come this week wouldn't have done the same as me. And also if you look at the OOP of play for tommorow, you will see that both semis are running at the same time (noon). That is a total JOKE. They clearly think everyone wants to just come in and see Laura. Obviously they are attracting publicicty just because of Laura's exploits, but that doesn't mean that this is now the Laura Robson tournament. There are people like myself who just want to come and watch some tennis, and Laura being there has just been an added bonus. I would have love to have seen the whole of the other semi, but as it is it looks like I am driving all the to Shrewsbury just to see one match, and maybe the end of a second if the first one finishes before the other.
