RE: Week 38 - Futures F15 (15k) - Nottingham 2, Great Britain

So is Colin back playing full time now?  Or will he be back to uni again soon?

He seems to be bang on form again at mo.

Prpic will be tricky though, he's another one of those serial Brit Bashers.

Current score is  Prpic 23 - Brits 6.

Steven - you might need to start increasing the Top 25 table soon wink.gif (must be a while since we had 25 "Active" players with three figure rankings)

It's not going to get increased LOL, 25 is about as much as I can cope with (especially when trying to keep the women's table going as well - that one's harder because the information isn't quite as easy to obtain and most tournaments still offering a point for R1 losses results in lots of fiddly ranking changes), but yes it's good to see the top 25 all with three figure rankings.

In fact, the table started off as a Brits in the top 500 table when we had 20 of those, so although this is the best position re Brits in the top 1000 for a year or two, it's still nowhere near 2005 levels.

As for Prpic being a serial Brit-basher, a glimmer of hope is provided by the fact that Colin is still the last Brit to have beaten our old friend Mr Nielsen (the Brit-basher extraordinaire), 6-2 7-6(8) back in 2006. Brits have since tried and failed to beat the Dane 23 times.

Feeling jealous of Steven's table, I wanted my own Top 25 table.

So here it is - the Top 25 Brit-Bashers table...

Wins Played % BB Pts*
1 Frederik Nielsen DEN 49 56 88% 32.8
2 Marcus Sarstrand SWE 27 32 84% 16.2
3 Joseph Sirianni AUS 25 30 83% 14.5
4 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga FRA 23 27 85% 14.2
5 Conor Niland IRL 40 57 70% 13.8
6 Stephane Robert FRA 16 17 94% 13.3
7 Harsh Mankad IND 32 43 74% 13.2
8 Nicolas Tourte FRA 33 45 73% 13.0
9 Samuel Groth AUS 27 35 77% 12.4
10 Aisam Qureshi PAK 32 44 73% 12.3
11 Laurent Recouderc FRA 19 22 86% 12.2
12 Niels Desein BEL 12 12 100% 12.0
13 Luke Bourgeois AUS 31 43 72% 11.6
14 Filip Prpic SWE 23 29 79% 11.5
15 Martin Fischer AUT 18 21 86% 11.3
16 Travis Rettenmaier USA 18 21 86% 11.3
17 Wesley Whitehouse RSA 16 18 89% 11.2
18 Julien Maes FRA 19 23 83% 10.7
19 Philipp Marx GER 27 37 73% 10.5
20 Benedikt Stronk GER 23 30 77% 10.4
21 Robert Varga HUN 39 61 64% 10.2
22 Gary Lugassy FRA 33 49 67% 10.1
23 Jeremy Blandin FRA 10 10 100% 10.0
24 Wesley Moodie RSA 25 34 74% 9.9
25 Daniel King-Turner NZL 18 22 82% 9.9

(All matches vs Brits since 2002)
*BB Pts (Brit-Bashing Points) = Wins * % * % * %

It's quite interesting at mo.

No.3 Brit-Basher, Sirianni, beat Jonny Marray yesterday.

Stephane Robert & Filip Prpic are in action in Nottingham this week.

And Blandin and Fischer both bashed 3 Brits on way to the semis & the title last week.

But as Steven says no one comes close to the Brit-Basher Extraordinaire, Mr. Frederik Nielsen.

Very interesting. I'm shocked to see A.U.H.Q in the top 10 - don't tell Imran, we'll never hear the last of it!

How are these ordered though? It's not no of wins and it's not %, is it some amalgamated measure you're sorting on?

Just added the BB Pts column that it's sorted on.  Wins * Percentage cubed.  Seemed about right.

First two QFs:

Dan Evans (8) bt Nick Cavaday 4-6 6-4 6-4  smile cry

Stéphane Robert (5) bt Colin Fleming 6-2 6-2  cry

*  Looks as though it was a relatively easy ride for Robert, but Nick Cavaday obviously put up a bit of fight!

Nice table.

Can you please tell me why some are in bold?

Akhenaten - BBP seems reasonable to me smile.gif

Stircrazy - that's Robert up to 4th on BBPs then, sadly cry

gjr - the ones in bold are the ones he mentions in the text underneath

Haha! I read the text a couple of times looking to see why some where in bold. I didn't realise I was reading the names that where in bold.

:)

Still an interesting table though. Some guys really put it to the Brits

Josh won first set 75 not 76.

Also saw final set of Cavaday - Evans. Nick led 2-0, Dan broke back for 2-2, then Nick had two break points at 3-3, but Dan won four points on the bounce.

Finally having been holding fairly comfortably Nick faced two bp's at 5-4 down and netted on the first of them no chance for a comeback, Dan's set and  match- 64.

Where has Cavaday come from?

Great to see him get to the QF's and push Evans close, but probably the right result for a win for Evans who must be looking at top 400/500 by the end of the year.

Good to see Skupski in a bit of form and pushing Josh all the way, and hopefully the winner of Josh/Evo will go on and win the title here.

If either of them beat Robert they will be playing well, but Josh would have a chance.

Think Cavaday's been in US, but others on here have a far better knowledge of that than me

Cavaday and Evo had a tight three setter earlier this year on grass so another tight match is no suprise, especially since Evo won again!

Brewer & Flan won the doubles title by beating Klingemann & Pokrajac 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
