Points to Defend column on the ATP rankings

Is this new?

A great addition to the rankings for those of us without our own spreadsheet!

Thats because he was at 172 at start of week.

Went up 4 because of players defending and then another 2 after yesterdays win.

Agree good addition to the site - shame they still do things like give Evans 5 points for US Open when he should get a zero!!

Yes, it suddenly appeared two weeks ago. And it's a darn good help for those of us WITH our own spreadsheet, I assure you, just one column to look at instead of searching for dates!

WARNING - don't take this column for gospel.

I am just setting up my spreadsheet for this week, and dropped all the "defending" points into the relevant column. Then when I was looking at the detail I found that the points to defend as per the column are not necessarily included in the "best 18" scores.

So although it is a big help, you have to be wary.

So basically they just put in that column how many points the player earned in the equivalent week the year before with no regard to whether them points do/don't affect their ranking??

Yes, that's right. Josh is shown as having 3 points to defend, but his 18th best without them is 3 anyway, so he doesn't move. Better than nothing though, at least it prompts you to check whether you might have missed something.

Even more useful (to me anyway, since I harvest the PTD info for my top 25 table for 2 or 3 months at a time) is the addition to the player activity page which specifies exactly when the points gained in each tournament are due to come off.

Well, dammit, it was useful.

The drop date is still on the detail page, but that still means trolling through looking for the current date to find the points to be defended.

Maybe they have discovered the snag and will put it back when they have sorted the problem? (she said hopefully!)

Great for the Brits - but I have a spreadsheet covering the top 200, so that only provides details for 2 players at the moment!
