Over hyped in what way? No-one ever said he was going to break top 100 suddenly or anything like that.

no but the media attention from the SUN and guadian to name a few was overtop to say he had beaten a grass court clown!

More impressive was his qualifying campaign, not the fact he beat the grass court muppet.

And who cares about the media anyway? I would say that the members of this site have more tennis knowledge than most of the writers out there.

Indeed, beating Patience in the fqr was the big achievement.

The main over-hyping has been people who should know better saying he should be in the DC team instead of Boggo/Goodall/Bloomers etc. (and I say that as a long-time - well, at least a year lol - Eaton fan) Does nobody remember that he lost to a just-back-from-injury Jonny Marray at the qWC playoffs too?

Not that JL's idea of having him as a hitting partner (which is what he actually said but eventually seems to have decided against) was such a bad idea ...

Edit: see below

Chris was basically a lower level futures player that because of Wimbledon has raised up to challenger level. He's had a few 1st round wins so I think he's taken a big step forward from where he was 3 months ago.

This loss is pretty grim but the stats make an intersting read. 11 aces. 1st serves in 65%. Theres seems nothing wrong with those but, we can only suggest why he should record those figures yet lose. Is he just trying to bomb players out for example?

His serve is obviously good. What we never know as fans is what sort of work is being done with players? Is he out there on his own, has the LTA sat him down and reviewed his situation and seenwhere they can offer help? I dont know but, there was a spark to build on from Wimbledon, I just hope the opportunity is being seized.

Beating Clement would have been a huge achievement but I think you will find it was another Frenchman Patience...

I was going to say, I was sure Clement appeared in the quarters this year, not knocked out in qualifying!

Doh! Sorry. The French have just got too many high-ranked players to be able to distinguish between them all! LOL
