She's playing so well but just seems unable to take those break points even when Dementieva lets her control the point. Apparently she's taken 3 from 10.

She showed a good bit of fight to win two more points, but Dementieva took the third to win 3 & 4.

poor shot choice by ak leaves easy ball for elena to take the match. a great week tho, pushed elena, maybe needs to stop running around the fh as elena seemed to be trying to jam her in on it and sometimes shed hit a great winner but maybe % was more ue's

Shame she had to lose, but it was expected. It sounds like Anne played well which is great, hopefully she can take confidence from this run and have a good autumn.

She'll be disappointed, especially with her returning. She really could have had that 2nd set quickly if she'd returned better. Some good moments, but just too many errors, especially on the backhand.

But it's still a learning experience, even at her age.

Anne cry Still... encouragement and confidence to be gained from this week. And hopefully a career high at the end of it!

Let's all cheer on Dementieva now... biggrin

Thought Anne played really well, very aggressive performance especially on the return. Demonstrated that she has got the weapons to be a top 50 player though consistency is something of an issue.

Liked the way that she was absolutely brutal in dismissing Lena second serve, going for huge forehand return winners down the line and cross court. Anne served well and her second serve was better than I expected though a few double faults in the second set hurt her chances when the match was quite competitive.

Dementieva wasn't anywhere near her best in the second set and Anne would perhaps hope to be taking that set to a tiebreak or even winning it. Having comeback from 1-3 to lead 4-3 it was perhaps inevitable that Lena get her act together to break back straight away.

Although Anne had a lot of break points in the second set, Lena came up with some of her best serves to rescue her and there was only one poor forehand error from Anne amongst the break points she missed out on. The breaks of serve that Anne gained were a result of some fabulous forehands, one crosscourt after two return of serve winners to break for 4-3.

Very encouraging.

She played quite well. It was great to see her going pound for pound with a player of Elena's quality. I think these are the best matches to lose. She had a million chances in the second (bps in almost every game), but there wasn't the heartbreak which happened at the match vs Bartoli.

She stil has a lot to improve if she wants to break the top 50 by the end of this year/start of 09. She went in this match trying to be the aggressor and made a hell of a lot of errors, it seemed she was trying too hard and obviously not doing great. She started to tone it down in the second but the backhand was a bit erratic and as Sam said, she should be hitting virtually 0 UEs on that side as it isn't the shot that she is looking to control the rallies with.

When she got to *4-3 I think she thought about it too much which was always going to happen. But all in all she played a good match and it was hugely encouraging. If she cut out the errors on her backhand she could go really high. I think she needs to work on how cleanly she hits the ball because she can shank the ball A LOT.

But what is so great about this is usually when the brits get a chance to play against these type of players they are like "I want to be able to play these type of players day in, day out", then of couse its back to those 25k 1r matches against the (as Sam puts it) unpronouncables biggrin well now of course, she's right there. Her ranking can get her into every Tier III/IV tournament and many Tier Is and IIs. The more she plays them, the likeier the chance she has of beating them. But yeah, she has a weeks rest and then shes off to a tier III/IV tournament in asia, right?hopefully someone above her will withdraw and she can snatch a seeding that would be great.

Wow, what a ramble... Didn't think I would type this much lol.
