from an arctile in the guardian, just a snippet from brad on his time with alex:
What about his results with Bogdanovic which, on the face of it, were pretty poor? "Alex has lost a lot of close matches," he says. "I think he is going to start to move back up. He is a great kid who has had a lot of weight on his shoulders because I was coaching him. My goal was to get him in the top 100 but I never claimed to be a magician. You can only coach as good as your subject is. I can't take some guy who is 100 and make him No1 if the capabilities are not there. Roddick had the capabilities. So did Agassi. Alex has the capabilities to be a top 75 player. But he doesn't have the capabilities of being a top five and it is unfair of him to be judged for that. He should be a No75 guy and I am confident he can get to that level."
well lets hope BG is right and alex can make it to 75 (and stay at least there). i think its fair he points out the pressure of expectation that was placed on alex by having him as his coach, and we know that generally alex hasnt coped well with expectation before.
they also point out in the article that alex has fallen to 172 since his time with brad, which isnt quite true as i think he was 190 when they hooked up.
at the end of the day its up to alex to prove he can do it, he wont have a personal coach for the time being, but at challenger level he is capable of winning these matches without one.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the pressure of Brad being lifted off Alex didn't do him the world of good, as I get the impression that he doesn't respond to pressure as well as some do. He seems quite a retiring sort, and quite apart from the public expectation of being coached by Brad, I can't help wondering how he coped with Brad's brash, in-yer-face attitude. Even Muzza couldn't stand it for long. . .
i agree boggo certianly doesnt like the media spotlight. he makes no attempts to give interviews etc (he didnt give a single interview in the run up to the DC tie in argentina) where as at the others did. and i agree that the pressure on him to jump up the rankings was huge. i think he coped ok with the brad in your face stuff, but i know BG worked him very hard in the gym etc which he stuggled with a bit.
as you say it wll be nice if he can end the year well, and perhaps start 2009 with a much more +ive outlook (and hopefully no away DC tie to argentia to screw the schedule). each year that goes by gets harder for him to make that step up, but there are players who have come good later in their career, lets hope he is one of them.
