A shot at the Olympic Champ, hopefully she can replicate this kind of result, seems so weird to have followed Anne in this championship so far. Its nice to have another brit on the player tracker bar at the top of the Slam Trakcer box lol!
It's a great win for Anne, and I'm surprised that she did manage to get the win, especially after her recent results.
Demetieva next... and I'd give Anne 0-1% chance of winning that match, as I just don't see a way that she can beat her, unless Dementieva has a terrible day.
She'd have won a GS or two if she could serve (it's a bit better now, but every serve goes to the forehand), and I think she'll win a Slam at some point, especially given how poor the women's game at the very top is at the moment.
If Anne wins a set I'd be amazed, but I'd expect something like a 3 and 3 win for Demetieva
Well this is a surprise to be this far into a Grand Slam and still be supporting a Brit in round three. A long time since Bally's Aussie Open run! This is most definitely welcome!
I'm over the moon for Anne. That was a fantastic win and brilliant to see her fighting at 4-2 down. I was worried that she would fall apart at that point but Schiavone is exasperatingly erratic to watch. To think she beat Henin earlier this year in Dubai... I wonder how annoyed the Italians are watching her!
Is this some sort of record for GB players in a GS, five main draw matches and five main draw wins, two for Anne and one each for Andy, Andy&Ross and Jamie&Liezel?
Demetieva next... and I'd give Anne 0-1% chance of winning that match, as I just don't see a way that she can beat her, unless Dementieva has a terrible day.
OK, can I have £10 at 99-1 against, please
I don't see her winning, but I certainly would give her a bit more chance than that, say 5%.
What a fantastic result yesterday, and what fight she showed in that third set. She sounds like she's on a real high in her interviews too - her voice makes a lovely change from Muzza's monotone drawl - not that I want to get at him for that, I'm sure he can't help it.
I agree with 71, that's my central estimate on the gbt25 table for her new ranking too. Or is that where you got the 71 from? (trying to work out "TBE"!)

P.S. I like the way she now says she doesn't think the gap between players like her and the top players is anywhere near as large as she used to think it was.
She must be starting to earn some proper money now too - hopefully some of the other girls will realise that and start thinking they want a bit of that too and they're willing to ut in the effort to do it!

Agreed.. I have to say, at Wimbledon even though she said "If I don't believe I can beat her (Venus) I should be here" or something like that, I don't think she was 100% sure in her ability. Now I think she has full belief in her ability to beat the very best, players like elena. I really am excited for this match and I think she has a better chance than some people think. If she just stays really aggresive, you never know. Especially considering Dementieva isn't exactly the model of consistency. I think now that Dementieva has won the Olympics all the punters have leaped onto her bandwagon without even thinking about where it might lead to.

Anne Keothavong - Heather Watson - Naomi Cavaday - Laura Robson - Elena Baltacha - Everyone else!
Since she broke into the top 100, Anne has been fairly fortunate with her draws and might well have done quite a bit better than she has done.
on grass:
Surbiton - reached final (excellent) Birmingham - K. Bondarenko (expected loss) S'Hertogenbosch - S.Errani (missed opportunity) Wimbledon - V. King (nice draw) then Venus (good performance)
on hardcourt:
Stanford - qualified easily (impressive) then beat Sania Mirza (still recovering from injury) before losing to Bartoli (excellent display but couldn't quite get the win)
Los Angeles - Jill Craybas (disappointing) Montreal - Makiri (expected loss) Cincinnati - Lilia Osterloh (missed opportunity) New Haven - lost in qualifying
US Open - Glatch (dream draw) then an out of form Schiavone (super win)
I think the standout display was against Marion Bartoli, especially the middle part of the match. This was the performance that suggested that Anne could be a top 50 player (something I would never have believed possible before seeing this match), though the four subsequent tournaments indicate that Anne isn't able to reproduce this form on a regular basis at the moment.
Anne seems to be targetting the bigger events in the autumn (she's playing Bali then Tokyo tier 1) rather than the weaker tier 3 and tier 4s that I would have thought were her best opportunity of adding enough points to defend her 65 from India last year (that event has now been cancelled) and hopefully rise a few places up the rankings.
Next year Anne may find that her draws, especially in the slams where the big points are available, aren't as easy as King and Glatch (a nice 120 points). It is very encouraging that she could get the win against Schiavone because this is the sort of match that she'll get quite often on the main tour, against a talented opponent who perhaps isn't on form on the day, thus giving Anne a chance. The other impressive aspect is that Anne has had a run of poor results yet hasn't fallen into a major slump, as I feared might happen (and as so many female players do, losing all confidence in the their game).
As for the next match against Dementieva, I think Anne will strike a number of stunning winners, will play superbly in patches, but won't be able to sustain her level for long enough to be competitive against Lena. I'm not convinced that Anne can serve aggressively at around 65%, and she'll do well to win 40% of the points behind her second serve. Anyway, it will be a good test of the Keothavong serve.
