Carl Maes 'confirmation of where top girls are at the moment, she's been confident, nice to see that building, at 4-2 if Anne hadn't stepped up FS would have won. The way Anne took matters into her own hands and took the initiative was very good.
Anne took more risks on her forehand and took the upper hand against a very experienced player. Very impressed - after her loss to Bartoli this will seem very good.'
I don't think golcfish watched it mjd. I listened to it on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra. I assume you did the same goldfish?

Didn't watch the match - was just relaying some of the commentary from Radio 5 Live extra. If I have to describe the shots with no commentary, I'd be much worse. At least I had a feed although they weren't describing all the shots hence the gaps.
Amazing. Third round. It seems she played quite well but not to the best of her ability so there's more in her tank for against Dementieva - If Elena has a bad serving day you never know... :p

Great stuff Anne. Its weird seeing a british girl in the top 100 and now 3rd round of a major. I think this means shes probably safely in the top 100 for another 6 months now.
Winning % on 1st Serve 36 of 54 = 67 % - 27 of 38 = 71 %
Winning % on 2nd Serve 18 of 39 = 46 % - 22 of 52 = 42 %
Receiving Points Won 41 of 90 = 46 % - 39 of 93 = 42 %
Break Point Conversions 5 of 9 = 56 % - 3 of 10 = 30 %
Total Points Won 95 - 88
(the stats would suggest that Schiavone had a bit of a horror match with 9 dfs and just 42% of first serves in play)
Recalling the Bartoli match earlier this summer, Anne looked a super player once she got going and it has been surprising up to now that her subsequent results have been disappointing.
Elena Dementieva in the next round. Could do with a high first serve percentage because Lena will destroy vulnerable second serves. Akgul Amanmuradova did a good job of holding serve against Dementieva but she's 6'3 and volleyed beautifully, so not necessarily an approach Anne could replicated.
Now, the little matter of Dementieva. As Kundalini says, I think it is vital that Anne serves well and gets a good first serve percentage. Elena's real serving woes seem to be in the past, but hey no better time for them to return then now
I saw the first set had gone Anne's way and hoped it could continue in that fashion but to win from that position in the third havnig lost the second set shows that Anne has stepped up to the mark!
This should give her a good crack at AO, FO and a few bigger tournaments as well!
Wow, 7 aces... Thats a huge number for Anne. Yeah, if she serves well and has a crack at Lena's serve I think she could pull off the upset. I really do. She didn't even seem overjoyed with her performance today which always means that there's much more in the tank and after the Venus match, I bet she feels that she can live with anyone on the WTA. I bet shes really going to be up for the task, and I bet Lena is feeling really relaxed right now. Which in a sense can be a good thing when everything is going her way but a disaster of she isn't playing well. And Anne has game. Tbh, Elena is just a better version of Anne, big forehand, solkid backhand, wobbly serve, great movement, not too great volleys.. So on and so forth. Hope Anne can make it a great occasion for British Tennis. Cmon!
Show court, with the crowd cheering for her, I believe!
