IMPORTANT DATES

The approximate timetable for the US Open pick 'em is:

Mon. 18 Aug 00.00 GMT (1 a.m. UK) - entries open for those who need to enter early with semi-'blind' picks - see the end of this post (*)

Thu. 21 Aug 22.00 GMT (11 pm UK) - main draw takes place

Fri. 22 Aug by early morning (UK) - main draw available on the entry form, with qualifiers placed

Having qualifiers placed on Friday morning would certainly be helpful for me as I am going away for a few days. However to do so you will have to be prescient, as qualifying is scheduled, as usual, to take place from Tuesday to Friday! Hence at best qualifiers will be placed by the early hours of Saturday morning (UK). Last year it was a day later because of rain.

Sorry, I must have left that bit on from an earlier pick 'em whose factsheet I was amending to produce this one, thanks for pointing it out - corrected now.

I suppose my "silly" picks must be Andy to win?

Well, I didn't enter Cincinnati (not even sure if there was one lol, I was on hols) but if I had I would have surely won the contest or at least come close, due to Andy actually winning the tournament.

Surely my picks of Andy to win aren't that silly in hindsight considering he has now proven he can win a Masters????

I will consider taking part.

One night when I'm drunk.

For the record, I don't drink.

But that doesn't mean anything.

The main draw is now on the entry form, so entries are now properly open. See http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html. If you want to wait for qualifiers to be placed, they should be placed in the early hours of Saturday morning UK time.

Qualifiers have been placed in the draw, which is now final barring any late withdrawals - you can enter at http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html

While entries from the top 250 in the overall rankings at http://www.britishtennis.net/pickem/ranking.htm?n=1 will be accepted right up to the deadline at 15.00 GMT / 4 pm UK / 11 am US EDT (as long as they enter with the same name as before or email to warn us that they have changed), there is a 500 limit on the total number of entries we can handle at the moment.

In the (unlikely but not impossible) event that we reach that limit this time, entries from those outside the top 250 will be accepted on a first come first served basis to fill the remaining 250 slots plus any not taken up by top 250 players. You can track how entries are going at http://www.britishtennis.net/pickem/2008uole.htm?n=1

My entry is in, only defending 33 points from last year so looking to shoot up well into the top 200 here

Currently BT.net are the team with the greatest number of entrants (18/125), either we all enter early or we're doing great smile.gif However, if you haven't yet entered, feel free to do so!

Both the Count and the Shedman have already entered so that battle can commence...

I'm in. At least Steven's new rule has made it interesting for rubbish pickers like me. I'm currently at a lofty #252, looking to break into the top 250 to qualify automatically for future pickems.

Just in case anyone wants to change their entry, it looks like Ferrero has been replaced by Andrey Golubev

http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/playerprofiles/?playernumber=G806

He plays WC Brendan Evans

Qureshi's in for Koubek as well, although I'm not sure Steven would thank us for encouraging people to change their entries! I don't think they make too much difference to mine so I'll leave it as it is.

Qureshi was on the entry form from the moment qualifiers were placed. The Ferrero w/d was a lot later, but Golubev managed to win anyway.

Initial results and all the other stuff you're used to are available at http://www.britishtennis.net/Competitions.html

I got what I thought would be the 'big one' - Melzer beating F-Loppy - right, but Monaco and Soderling are now on my 'to be shot' list, as is Gremlinmayr after losing from a double break up in the 3rd .. I think!

JM.org (where AM.com send all the players who are too crap for their 'A' Team ...) lead at the moment, which must mean that all the rubbish pickers have been getting lucky! Then again, Pebs is 16= after 23 of today's 24 matches and was =top three matches ago. Most of the class in the field is in 245th= though *cough* - 11 of the top 25 in the overall rankings are languishing there.

i thought Kei had a god change to win, but he seems so injury prine that i shied away from picking him.

grr betting on melzer, in the run up to the DC thats consorting with the enmey - but i guess the longer he plays the more chance he has of picking up a short term injury.

Bummer, I had Soderling and Lopez winning a few rounds. I did get Nishikori though, and I must be doing something right as I currently sit with the class of the field in 245th= lol
