RE: Week 34 - US Open Qualifying (Women)

Unfortunately, she is a break down in set 2. Kucova is serving at *2-1

Naomi seems to have run out of puff again, unfortunately - a double break down in the 2nd now.

Less good 2nd set may be understatement of the year.

ugh. Talented opponent, but Naomi reached the final round of qualifying last year. Down to 250 and that ranking is flattering. She's not even playing like a top 400 player.

I think she should be moving to the NTC, she's the only one of the top girls not there, and if she's serious about her career she should be moving away from home to better facilities and better coaches.

Disappointing loss after such a good start... just not happening for Naomi this year, and she seems to have gone backwards with her career recently, barring a decent effort at Wimbledon.

Not sure what needs to change, but something does, as she's needs some wins from somewhere just to get the confidence going again.

Same as at Wimbledon, then. A good first set then rapidly downhill, as though one good set is all she can manage.

I remember at Wimbledon she looked far from fit; I don't mean ill, I mean not enough work in the gym etc. Is that still the problem, do you think?

I saw a photo of Naomi at the start of the year playing in Auckland and she looked in good shape, and was highly impressive according to a local reporter. She then picked up an injury, and it has been downhill ever since, splitting with David Felgate, moving away from the NTC back to Bromley, putting on weight and being quoted by Nigel Sears as having had personal problems. I imagine that most of these problems are linked, but it may be a blessing for her to lose and crash down to around 250. Hopefully it will cause her to think carefully about how she is going to change things to regain the momentum she had last year.
