RE: Week 33 - 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing: men's doubles

Gonzalez vs. Blake was a fantastic match earlier today, and they played some brilliant tennis at times, with Gonzo winning 11-9 in 3rd, having saved 3 match points at 5-6 (and needed 5 match points to win himself, with Blake saving the first 3 with outrageous backhand winners)

Doubles's semi finals are going to be good...

In the first you have the Bryan Brothers against Federer and Wawrinka, while the other one between Apselin/Johanasson and Clement/Llodra is currently on serve in the 3rd set, with the Swedish pair 18-17 up!!!

Roger and Stan will meet the Swedes in the final biggrin

I'm glad Fed will at least take a gold or silver home.

Gonzo against Blake was great to watch. Ballbashers can be highly entertaining when they don't lose their heads!

Djoko and Nadal were highly emotional in the end. omg.gif

Who do we think will win tomorrow? I'll go for Gonzo as he's a horrible match up for Nadal, plus seems to take his game to another level when playing for his country. But then it'll be a best of five sets match, isn't it?

It's best of 5 sets, but the final is on Sunday.

Gonzo only has a chance if he plays the kind of tennis that got him to the Australian Open final (the 49 winners to 3 errors he produced against Haas kind of match), any less than that and he won't beat Nadal.

He should be a bad match-up for Nadal, but Nadal has beaten Youzhny, Blake, Berdych etc on hard courts this year who in the past owned him on the surface, so I guess he'll have figured out a way to win, or just have improved so much on a hard court that only Federer and Djokovic could beat him.

I think Nadal will win the Gold Medal, while Djokovic will dig really deep to get the bronze, as he so wanted to win a medal here, and he looked absolutely distraught after losing today (more though than I've ever seen him before), and won't want to leave without a medal.

And great to see Federer finally get his Olympic medal, and I'll be amazed if he and Wawrinka lose to Aspelin and Johansson tomorrow, so it will be great for him to win his gold medal, which I think he deserves.

I think the Bryans may just win the Bronze as Clement and Llodra must be shattered after losing today.

Great to see Federer finally get the Gold Medal, and when they won the match, I've never seen him look that happy!

The Bryan's got the Bronze, while Djokovic won the Bronze in the singles event.

Yes, what a release that must have been for him after all the stress and doubts of this year. I hope it gives him some confidence going into singles at the USO, because if it does, the USO will be very interesting indeed.

Nice for the Fed. He has an acute sense of history (and his place in it)-and I'm sure an Olympic gold will mean a lot to him.
