Eaton and Slabba get a pair of Indian WC's in round 1, although I have no desire to type out the name of one of them as I'll be here all day!

Wow, Yang is playing so well out here. He had never shown show much promise before, with his only impressive win being the one over Eitzinger he got in Kaohsiung last year.

I've always wondered as to how a tiny country like Taiwan can produce so many Tour players at the same time - Lu, Wang, Yung-jan Chan, Su-wei Hsieh and maybe one or two more and now this guy should get there in the next few years.

Unfortunately, Chris & Alex went down 3 & 3 to the Indian third seeds in the doubles, Gajjar & Raja. cry

Also, Kai-Chen Chang will be top 100 someday. So that's two men and two women who have been top 100 in the last two years, one of the best women's doubles teams in the world, and two top Juniors.

In spite of being one of the most prosperous countries in Asia and having a sizable population, that's extremely impressive for a small country where tennis is probably not a cult sport.
Shows that you need to make the best of whatever you have, not grumble that France has double the number of kids playing tennis a year, tennis is so expensive etc. etc.

I have to say I haven't seen Yang play, but no-one gets to be world junior number 1 and win a junior slam unless they have some serious talent (and as he won the French Open, that would suggest he's got a future on a clay court, which is impressive as other than Somdev, none of the other Asian's can play on a clay at all)

Losing in a 3rd set TB to Udomchoke last week showed he's in form, but I did think Eaton would be able to beat him, although it's no disgrace to lose to him, although disappointing having had match points seemingly.

Kei Nishikori is extremely good on clay. But I agree with what you say in general, obviously. smile.gif

Nishikori has only ever lost one match on a clay court (to James Blake on a very slow court), winning the other 8 matches he's played, all at challengers (but with a walkover defeat in one of the events)

He seemed to have skipped the whole clay court season this year, whether through choice or injury (for once he didn't retire in Bejing), so there's nothing known about how good on clay at ATP level he'll be (or even challenger level since he's gone backwards in the rankings since winning Delray Beach)

Kei also lost in Roland Garros qualies.

But I don't think he has gone backwards very significantly - just struggling too much with injuries and inconsistency.

Good news and bad news from Dehli...

Goodall def. Armstrong - 7-6(7), 6-1
Yang def. Slabinsky - 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Well done to Goodall for another semi final and he keeps the form going, and he's playing pretty well other these last couple of weeks, but a shame he's got Udomchoke which will be a tough match

Shame that Slabba lost, as it was a match he really could have done with winning, especially with him being in such a good position after the first set, and with Kindlmann beating Klein, the draw had opened up to reach the final

Wow, Yang becomes only the second 1990 or below born player to win three rounds at a Challenger.
