Well, she'll get them back soon enough, being Tara it should just make her double her rather considerable efforts..... she's a fighter.

But you do have to question the people who book her schedule....

The separate rules for ITF/WTA wildcards come into effect at the age of 17.

15 year olds have a combined maximum of 3, whilst 16 year olds can have up to 4

This shocking screw-up (if that's what it is) makes Andy Murray's 0 pointer (and $80K fine, I think) for withdrawing from Indy look like a minor oversight.

One thing I can't understand, if they're trying to stop young players from over-playing, why doesn't the limit apply to tournaments in total rather than WCs?

I'm also thinking that if there's no effective system in place to stop this happening (surely a computer generated "you've had your quota of WCs for this year" shouldn't be too hard to do, though I accept that it should be even easier for the players to work it out for themselves), I bet this happens all the time and would never have been picked up if she hadn't got so far in the tournament. furious

There are limits on both the number of WCs and the number of tournaments, increasing with age. I haven't researched the fines/penalties imposed for breaches of the age rules, but I imagine that the greatest severity is imposed for exceeding the total number of tournaments in a year, particularly for anyone with previous. There are also requirements for involvement in various educational programmes, medicals etc., which are subject to the same penalty clause for non-compliance - so there is plenty of scope to fall foul of the WTA/ITF !
