RE: Week 32 - Futures F3 (15k) - Tehran, Iran

Well done to Myles for reaching the semi finals, and hopefully this can re-start his career as he looked to be on the verge of the top 600 at the end of last year but had just gone backwards until this tournament.

He's already done so much more than I thought he would this week, so he may as well go on and win the title here.

I'm sure it was played hours ago, but results are quite slow coming out of Tehran, even on ITF - the draw isn't even up on the ATP site yet!

What a week this is turning out to be!

SF: (7) Myles Blake WR 857 beat (2) Grzegorz Panfil (POL) WR 399 by 2 & 4 biggrin

Myles had scored only two ranking points in the first 7 months of 2008, now he's scored 12 in a week! He will rise 150 places when these points get added on Monday week and will be back in the top 700 (probably), with another week in Tehran to come.

FI: (7) Myles Blake WR 857 v (1) Adam Vejmelka (CZE) WR 318

That is a great week for Myles.

I wonder if he's had niggling injuries as he has not played consistently (entering tournaments and playing matches) for ages.

What is the surface in Tehran?

Perhaps he is fully fit again and ready for an assualt on the rankings.

Vejy in the final will probably be a step too far but that is an impressive semi final win!

Its Clay

He's done well in Iran in the past and made the semis where he lost 6-4 6-3 to Vejy either last year or the year before

Clay is his best surface and he's a solid player but he's had quite a puzzeling year really but beating Panfil 2 and 4 is the best result of his career so far i'd say as Panfil has been doing quite well at both Futures and challenger level in 2008

Good to see Miles do a Slabba (i.e. barely win a match for half a year and then reach a Futures final out of nowhere).

Panfil is a far better player than Vejjy, so a title is not impossible.

Another brilliant win for him!!!

Whatever he's done for this week, it's worked, and he's found some stunning form out of nowhere, and it's been his best week of his career so far.

Hope he gets the win and takes the title, and it's not impossible for him to do so, but I think he's a big underdog at the moment.

Myles took the first set but wasn't able to hold on for the title:

FI: (7) Myles Blake WR 857 lost (1) Adam Vejmelka (CZE) WR 318 by 3-6 6-3 6-3 cry

Nevertheless, a good attempt against a much higher-ranked player and this has without a doubt been the best week of his career so far. biggrin

Oohh, so close there... At least he lost with dignity! Great week for Myles - now just the easy job of pushing on from this success! wink
