RE: Week 32 - Great Britain F12 (Wrexham 10K) - 2008.

Great results from Jonny and Josh - when I saw Jonny's draw, my heart sank again as he does seem to get much more than his fair share of shockers; and Josh is just such a nice lad, I'm very pleased for him.

Really interesting observations on the players, too, Johnylad - thanks.

I am mildly annoyed with Evo as he is playing doubles. It is true that it can get him some money and he's an exceptional doubles player, but he'll have to do qualies at Cumberland after this. If he does well in singles as well as doubles this week, he could be very tired come the next Tuesday.

ATP site won't update before the end of the day. In case you didn't know, you can get results from British tournaments out here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/tennis/uk_results/default.stm

Bookmark it as it's top secret!

Could someone please explan why Evo has to qualify for Cumberland? Surely with the points he's gained recently his ranking will be high enough to make the main draw? Is it because the draw, or at least the player list, has already been decided? If so, how soon before an event do they decide who will get a direct acceptance into the main draw?

Sorry if this is obvious to most. I'm new to this.

Thanks,

They take away the results every now and then, Talp! It shows 2nd August for me, too.

Hello and welcome to the forum, Gavin. smile.gif

At Futures events, entry lists are made two weeks before the main draw starts. Evo's ranking wasn't high enough to enter this two weeks ago, so he has to go through qualies.

For that matter, his ranking isn't high enough even now. Futures ranking points are added after a delay of one week, and his points from Ilkley will be added next Monday.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for explaining that Salmon. I wasn't aware of the delay in adding Futures points either. All good to know.

I suppose if Evo wasn't in hot water with the LTA, he could have been given a wild card into the next event.

Yes, he would surely get at least one wild card (here or in Cumberland).

Actually, he wouldn't. If he wasn't in hot water with the LTA, he'd be skipping this tournament and playing the Nationals next week.
