Good results for Chris Nott this week - he's a new name to me, does anyone know anything about him?

Chris is a college tennis player in the U.S.; he plays for the University of Arkansas. There's a fair amount of info about him on their site: http://www.arkansasrazorbacks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=30831&SPID=2429&DB_OEM_ID=6100&ATCLID=1208386&Q_SEASON=2007

I think thats a great Draw! Hope A Ward gets to play the top seed, its difficult knowing exactly where his game is at the moment when he plays against quality oposition in Spain all the time. Smethurst for the title!

Wow, I wasn't aware that Pritchard has a single hander. Do we have any other British player with one barring him and Naomi Broady?

I've got a lovely, if slightly inconsistant single handed backhand biggrin

Considering the good draws that the Brits had last week, and the fact all of the challenger boys could win their first match, I suppose we were due a bad drae here, but still should get plenty through to round 2.

Ward, Evans, Feaver, Illingworth, Arlidge, Cox (couldn't find him in the draw as I was sure he'd be seeded!), Bamford, Hewitt and Smethurst all have good chances to make the 2nd round, which would be a decent points haul from the week.

Shame for the boys to get the top 4 seeds, but hope one of them can cause an upset and reach the 2nd round

I agree I really think that Evo's game is very similar to Henins! Think he needs a serious gym session!! I hear that Ben Pritchard has offered to show him arround the weight room abit...he looks like he has been on it recently..hes MASSIVE now!! I think Evo could also learn something from Pritch's backhand! If uve ever noticed that Pritch has a really good single hander, I dnt know why he doesn't use it all the time!! Lastly I'm thinking if that Rogan Egerton guy wasn't there then all the banter would be lost! I think they should pay him appearance fees!!

You are probably right Ege! But it was funny when you sent the glass flying.

I thought you played quite well when you were angry. Totally out of order with Dunbar though laughing.gif

I was very impressed with Phil Whalley and Thomas Knights yesterday. I thought they both had the game to step up and improve.

Ahmed El Menshawy was like a wall against Matt James who played like Murray in the mornings first set and got a little tight in the breaker. I'm impressed he won in QR2 as well.

Andrew Bettles was a proper player. How old is that kid? He's definitely got talent.

I was impressed with Josh McTaggart as well. He's only a little lad but has got plenty of shots in his locker. Dominic Ross-Hurst was a big fella but didn't have the answers. And Josh frustrated Bradshaw big time - didn't give Tim any pace to work with. (Think I spotted CourtCrazy courtside for that one!)

Nott vs Priddle was a moonball-fest and a full court away so can't really comment but he's donme great to qualify.

Lewis Barnes was his usual self against Harrison. Flashed of brilliance and losses of concentration. He could easily have won 2 and 1. Had good power and great disguise on his passing shots. I like his confidence as well - relaxed on court but occasionally sloppy. I wondered if Barnesy's migraine was brought on by Marsland's horrible hairstyle - pleased that Bradshaw took him out!

Pritchard was good against Lowe (who was back from a US college - played No5 this year hoping to move up to 2 or 3 next year). Lowe didn't really test him though. Pritchard made good use of the lob as well. Tristan Farron-Mahon was very tall and made good use of his wing span against Pritchard in QR2. Didn't see too much of that but it was a very cloe match. I think Pritchard was unlucky not to get a WC this week.

Chaudry vs Michael Ward was a lot closer than the score suggests. Chaudry just had more class at the end of rallies and was able to keep the ball in play more. Ward was pretty disappointed with his performance so there could be more to come for him.

Roles reversed for Chauders against Evo. Quite competitive rallies but Evo always had a passing shot, lob or volley too much for him.

Bugby (another one from US College - New Mexico I think) was really getting under Corrie's skin for a set and a half but Corrie just toughed it out.

I thought Ed Jones looked quite subdued vs Dhruva. I don't think Dhruva gave him any pace to play with but looked very good in seeing off Cottier, was seemed a fair bit older.

Smethurst was 2-0 down vs Dunbar in the first set but won 12 of the last 13 games because he had oodles more class.

Gutted I didn't get to see Fitzy.

I doubt I'll be able to go back for any more this week but was pleased with my day out.

As for the main draw -

I can see Illingworth or Cox in a semi against Smethurst but I think Rodrigues and Burqier will make it through the top half.

Thanks for that. Loving the positive review of Barnesy.

Bettles is 15 years old. He's quite good, yes - the only 1993 born player along with Morgan and Oliver Golding who has made some impact on the ITF circuit.

Bugby plays for New Mexico along with Max Jones (was ranked last year but hasn't played Futures since then, remember?).

Nice draw for Watters and I think he'll get another point. Nothing against Ward and I don't mind it if he wins, of course.

Coxy's draw is sort of nice, too. He's going to suffer a few more shock losses in the next year or so because of his age and inexperience, but he'll be the favourite against Brewer. Lejnieks is a good outdoor hard player and more than capable of beating Dan, but this is on Dan's favourite surface at the same time.
Not so good for Evans. He should beat Sletting-Johnsen, but it could be tough if he has Burquier in the second round. Still, everyone's beatable if he's playing well.

Good to see Alastair Barnes get a wild card as a reward for his semi impressive results in South Africa. Reix will be tough but you never know and it'll be a good experience for Al in any case.

Spoke to his dad at the Manchester Challenger quallies and then spoke to the man himself and he said he was going to try and enter as many tournaments as possible. He was planning initially of playing for Lancs in County and then Ilkley, so must of thought give Wrexham a try.

As for his playing, from what I saw he looked like a really good player. I think he could do well.

Gutted for Fitzy, but I think he's got the ability to beat him. My fingers will be crossed for him
