wonder why those 2 gave walkovers. Hear that young Kyra is fairly feisty on court. Isnt Eden Silva quite young - 10 or 11? Shes done well

Eden is 1996 born, I see on the LTA site. I didn't know that she was this young!

An old piece (Jun 2005) on her from the Telegraph:

"A little girl, about the size of her tennis racket, is giving it everything she has got on court. This is Eden Silva. She was nine in March. She is allowed to attend the academy once a week, in preparation for going full-time when she leaves primary school. "They train you really hard," she said seriously. "Every morning we have 2½ hours of footwork and training. After lunch we have schoolwork and after that we play tennis. It's really tough. They really push you. But it's really good. I like it. It's fun as well. After that we stretch for an hour, which feels nice."

Eden started playing tennis aged 3½ at her local club but outgrew the talent. Her mother is a Muscovite schoolteacher and her father a British businessman whose family comes from Sri Lanka. "I checked out Bollettieri but it was much more expensive," he said. "That was around £45,000 a year, not including the air fares." Hazelwood is £25,000 a year, or £7,500 on an FCUK scholarship."

Interesting stuff - havent seen her play but have heard she is good. It is interesting to look at the results for the U14s - seems to be a few upsets in those results (for the girls at least) so imagine the "pecking order" is starting to change. It must be SO hard to be at the top of your age group and then have a few bad results - really feel for some of these kids.

Wow, Eden! It'll be nice if she gives Hindmarsh a good match but it could be tough.

Great to see Jonny start getting results he's capable of. Is Ben Lott in any way related to Matthew Lott?

isnt Eden doing well. It is great to see the "new" stars start to make their mark. Is she the top player in her year? I thought she was the same age as Katy Boulter - someone who was streets ahead of her peers a few years ago. I do love it when things even themselves out a bit. it is pretty impressive for her to get to an U14s Final

Great week so far for Eden! That win over Crompton is particularly impressive! It'll be interesting to see how she compares with Eleanor Dean who is also a '96 born player who's done well.
Another solid tournament for 10 year old Akinnibi, even if she gave a walkover! :sad:

No, I see that Eden doesn't play much of the LTA tourneys and is ranked 31st in 12s and 44th in 14s. Of course, she is underranked badly because many players ahead of her have done thrice as many tournaments.

But the best 1996 born player that we have (assuming that there's no very late starter like Coco Vandeweghe lurking somewhere) at the moment is Eleanor Dean. No clue about her current level as she is based in the US (an assumption which is probably true) but we'll get to find out this December or next year when she plays ITFs/14s events in Europe.

Bournemouth results online now - looks like the Sayer Family had a good week and who is Josie Inverdale? havent seen her name before but she won the 18s despite being a low seed - assume she trains abroad.

Little Eden did well to get a set off Hindmarsh - is she another who is losing her hold on the opposition?

Very impressive result from Eden Silva - a 4-6 6-1 6-1 loss. Congrats to Hindmarsh on winning her second TE title.

Ben Lott won the final by 6-4 4-6 6-4. Shame that Jonny had to lose but a good week for him overall.

Report from 'Bluepastures' on GBTG, who went to see the final:

Caitlin Hindmarsh bt Eden Silva 4-6, 6-1, 6-1

Interestingly the first set was played outdoors on clay, before it started raining again and had to be moved indoors. Only about 15 minutes between the first and second set but the whole match changed. Hindmarsh has a fairly powerful serve for her age group, and and is (I'm guessing) at least 8 inches taller than Silva. More powerfully built too. Silva's a very qucik mover though, and that showed more on the clay.
