15 points for Mel just for qualifying and doing well last week. It's great to see Mel making solid progress this year as last year was poor by comparison.

An excellent win for Mel considering she was twice a break down in the second set, and an important one as it sees her qualify for a Tour event for the first time. In fact Mel is the first Brit to qualify for a Tier 1 event since Sam Smith qualified for Key Biscayne in March 1997.

In doubles Katie is reunited with Chanelle Scheepers, and could meet Mel and partner in the second round.

Typical! There were 2 chances where she could of faced another challenger, but instead gets the hardest pick

Brilliant from her to qualify for this event, but no luck at all with her drawing Bartoli first round, and that will probably be the end of the event for her.

Still, she qualifed for the event, and it will be similar players she'll face in the US Open qualifying, which should give her a lot of confidence that she could qualify

Incidentally if she can win this set then there is a good chance we will be able to watch her on Eurosport when coverage begins at 6
