Afternoon all, can anyone enlighten me with this tournament's schedule? I assumed that Wardy's game would have started and finished as they were due on court at 10am Spanish time (which is what a 1 hour difference?). Has anyone got the story?
Unfortunately, Ward & Gerard Granollers Pujol, the fourth seeds, lost to Gerard Gallego Bertran & Israel Vior Díaz 6-4 6-7(5) [8-10] in the doubles. Yet another close one that got away...!
He really should be reaching the final here, especially given how the draw has opened up nicely for him, so as long as he keeps playing well, a great chance for a first futures title for him.

I'll be gutted if he misses this opportunity! never seen a draw open up for him like this before, other than Indonesia last year when Lindahl retired on him!
Anything below the title here isn't good enough for a player of Wardy's calibre.
It may take a while for the results to come as this Futures has night sessions. Ward started at 1800 local time, and he is followed by another singles match.
QF: (1) James Ward WR 459 beat Marcelo Palacios-Siegenthale (ESP) WR 976 by 3-6 6-3 6-4
SF: (1) James Ward WR 459 v Inigo Cervantes-Huegun (ESP) WR 625
This is Wardy's 11th Futures semi, but as most of you know, he lost his first ten. Could this be his best chance of breaking his duck? Well, from the rankings it looks like it, but there are big danger signals - Cervantes is an 18-year old who won last week's Spanish Future, reached the Final two weeks ago and won another Future back in June.
Wardy squeaked out a very narrow 3-6 7-6(3) 7-6(6) back in March, which is encouraging (i.e. the fact he won it is, not that it was so close!), but Cervantes does seem to have moved up a level since then and will be in the top 600 when last week's winner points go on.

Good win for Ward and at least he's reached another semi final on his return to the clay courts.
Think this will be another tough match for him though, as ICH has had a very good year, moving up 600 spots are probably plays on clay all year round, so could well be better on the surface.
I think the semi-final jinx will continue, I'm afraid, with Ward losing in 3
