11th time lucky in semis for Wardy, despite getting bagelled in the 2nd set!
SF: (1) James Ward WR 459 beat Inigo Cervantes-Huegun (ESP) WR 625 by 6-4 0-6 6-3
FI: (1) James Ward WR 459 v (8) Pablo Martin-Adalia (ESP) WR 626
Martin-Adalia is another Spaniard to have fed bakery products to Rob Dee. In his last match against a Brit, he dropped a set to Dan Smethurst on grass in Frinton earlier this month, but he beat James 6-4 7-6(3) in Cordoba Challenger qualifying only last month, though James beat him 1 & 3 in Portugal last year.

I guess he'll win tomorrow and get his long deserved first title.
If James loses tomorrow, he'll go up to 428ish (or better, depending on what happens at New Delhi). If James wins tomorrow, he'll go up to 412ish (or better, depending on what happens at New Delhi).
best of luck to ward in the final, these spanish futures are always a lottery because you never know if your gunna be facing the next nadal so great to see thhe other ward in a spanish futures final this year!
It's been asked before, but can we stop changing the thread title? There really is no need for it and it spoils reading the thread, especially if you have been away for a couple of days and there are more than one round you have missed.
I do agree that he will benefit a lot from being a three courter, but since his heroics at Queen's, he's probably way better than any 10K field barring a few in the US.
Well done to James on winning his first futures title, which has been a long time coming.
Hope he can build on that when he returns to the challengers next week with a lot of confidence and he can put together some decent results in India to get him into the top 400 and above, meaning he'll either be a top seed in a 15K futures, or DE to weaker challengers.
Winning on clay is great as well, because we've needed someone at challenger level who is confortable on the clay courts and can take advantage of weaker clay challengers, or some of the very poor ATP qualies, and will also be a useful Davis Cup option on clay in a couple of years
EDIT: Who was the last Brit to win a Futures on clay? Guess Murray may have done so at some point... can't think of anyone else doing so in the last 3 years though
