Ward won't be here as he's a DE at a Futures. Ed Seator could be in qualies, though - he hasn't entered a Futures and could be down in alts list, like in the Saransk Challenger the week after.
Big week for Alex as he'll have to get whatever number of wins he needs for USO qualies.
I think Eysseric will withdraw as he's in Canada this week. Will probably train for a week in North America - he was based at Bollettieri's for a few weeks once and maybe he'll go there again.
Wonder if Ward's regretting playing a 10K in Spain over this now, as he would have made the cut here, given that Cakl is now 1st alternate, with the 2 SE spots to be cleared.
Good shout on Eysseric withdrawing, because that's exactly what he had done, and I think Slabba may sneak a seeding here, as I think he's the 7th best ranked player left in this according to the latest rankings, which would be a huge boost for him, as I think it must be the first time he's been seeded in a challenger
I guess Eysseric thought of this because there was a chance of him making the USO qualies cut. But then he didn't do well at the Futures he was playing (needed the titles), so there's no point in going.
Anyway, the cut for this is ... .... ... 641 and it may still go down. I wish that we had another player here.
At this moment, the direct entrant who are ranked ahead of Slabba (as of this Monday) are - Stakhovsky, Kukushkin, Istomin, Elgin, Dorsch and Chekhov. So a seeding of 6 or better unless there are higher ranked qualifiers or WCs.
Slabba needs three wins here for a guaranteed place in the USO qualies, and two to have a decent chance. I think it is quite possible.
To support the comment that I made under the Manchester thread - several of those at Manchester earlier this week now turn up here in Russia, I don't know how they cope with this week after week, I doubt that many (if any) of them will have agents to arrange travel, flights and hotels. I need a month to sort things out when I go on holiday once or sometimes twice a year! Let no one suggest these guys don't have commitment. .
He probably should be able to make the QF's here without too much difficulty, although the Russian he's got in round 1 has had a decent season at Futures level, and Ebden in round 2 is a good player on fast surfaces, but I think we are justified this week in expecting a QF from him.
That would be a decent result for the week, although I think he'd push Istomin to a decent match at least, and if he knows US Open qualies depends on it (still think he should take some cheap points somewhere instead, but that's a different matter), he may be able to beat him.
Looking at that Q draw!!! One of these days I'm going to go to somewhere obscure like this and try and qualify!
If he loses in the first round, he will be ranked around 308. If he loses in the second round, he will be ranked around 300. If he loses in the quarters, he will be ranked around 285. If he loses in the semis, he will be ranked around 265.
As we can see, he doesn't have much of a chance if he loses before the quarters.
