Daily Mail Article on Laura

Here.

Third paragraph - "Until February this year, Laura, 14, who was born in Australia but came to this country aged six, played all her matches as a representative of her native land.!"

Do the media actually know anything? Having followed Laura's progress on this board for over a year I know that can't possibly be true.

I have never seen Laura in a draw with Aus next to her name, first time i remember seeing her was when she was 11 and got to the qf? of eddie herr or orange bowl.

Maybe they are mixing Laura up with Johanna.

The again this is the Daily Mail the worst paper in existance

I saw that yesterday and was quite surprised (for all of about five seconds, then I remember it was the DM). To me, it seems lots a lot of assumptions (playing for Australia, suddenly switching nationality 4 months ago) all based on some extremely questionable "research". Pretty much proves that the papers don't bother to check the facts. On the Eddie Herr website, Laura is down as GBR for 2007 and 2006. That would have shown them the holes in their story in about 2 mins flat but I guess that's too easy for them! The sad thing is, an article like that will influence people who don't know otherwise (ie not tennis fans like here).

The daily mail is interested in, well, the daily mail agenda.

Part of this agenda is that British teenagers are crap, as are British teenagers in general. They are useless and we should be scared of them. This is the fault of the breakdown of society produced by the labour government, and we need to go back to the basic standards of the 50s. Now.

Anything good, ipse, must come from outside. Otherwise something might be going right, and we can't have that as we are not in the 1950s.

Congratulations, if you have memorised this, you have done the first of six steps to being a daily mail journoflush. Other training elements include: how single parents ruined the UK. How gay people ruined the UK. How the labour party ruined the UK. How immigration ruined the UK. Specialist topics include why we need grammar schools back, and your guide to internal furnishings. smile.gif

Diatribe ends.

For the record, Laura HAS played for Australia. She played and won Petit Princes in Annecy, a tournament for 13 year olds, with AUS next to her name.

She was a year younger and beat Bayliss in the finals - http://www.lespetitsprinces.com/v2006/resultats.html

But from what I know, that's the only time and it must be because they wanted a passport and put whatever you had. Laura played 14s before that with GBR.

One tournament doesn't make "all her matches" and on top of that, she has played cups for Britain, so it's terrible research from the person who wrote that. doh.gif
